Got some new tires on the 40. 37 × 12.5 × 17 KO2s.

I think it makes it look like a bit like a mall crawler. What do you think?

New wheels have much less offset for the street, which is nice.

It finally started to snow, so I had to take a picture.

Widened city racer wheels with hubcaps? That would be cool but needs completely different tires, but it would add some shazam

Maybe, if they were 17"s I'd probably be ok with them. My front brake caliper clearance is really tight with some wheels, I'd bet they would get close or touch.

I like the KO2 performance on snow and street, but they aren't very aggressive looking. That's what the krawlers are for.

On the road again, moving it back to the desert…. Again: the ‘72 has seen this section of I40 4x times now… hopefully, 2022 will be the year it does it under its own power 😂

Slid nose first into a bar ditch in a snow storm tonight @about 40 mph, being a dumb ass and driving in 2wd while the roads were slicker than a five gallon bucket of warm Vaseline. Pretty steep shoulder, I went from trying to keep it between the lines to trying to keep it shiny side up all within about 2 seconds. Stopped about 6 inches from hitting a split rail fence. Had to steer it into the ditch rather than out of it, if not I may have dumped it on its side.

Locked the hubs, hit 4lo, pounded the skinny pedal and managed to get it back on the road.

Drove home and parked it.
Glad to hear this didn’t end in tragedy Ryan. Merry Christmas!

Installed some black friday deals on the ‘69. Still have a bunch of goodies to install but got sidetracked by my neighbor.

Sorry for sideways photos. Apparently iphone and this website hate each other.

Santa brought me a cityracer floor mat so today I spent several hours removing the seats and cleaning stuff so I could install it.

I’m reasonably happy with the results. It’s a beautiful reproduction. I do hope that as it relaxes into place it reaches closer to the edges of its space. I don’t love the 1” gap. It was even more pronounced until I cut in the cowl vent tubes. I may also notch for the rear heater hoses. It does fit beautifully over the transmission hump and the shifter hole templates were dead on.

Ever wonder what 40 front drum brakes look like when not used for 30 years?

With break in the weather, I test drove my H42 transmission and transfer case upgrade. What a civilized driving experience compared to my J30. Next up, wrestling my transmission hump cover into truck. Note, spinning front drive shaft in 2 WD. This is caused by drivers side locking hub not staying in “free” position. It moves by itself to lock position.

Years ago, we would have said that your cruiser is possessed, but now we know that there is an imbalance of humors caused by a toad or a small dwarf living in the front diff.

Good engineering, I’ll add that all FJ40’s just want to go off-road...The locking phenomenon is proof.
