In the middle of a few cruiser projects, t-case gasket and seal replacements, parking brake cable and speedometer cable replacements, wire harness management, auxiliary light switch install… I was tired of having to use the 1/2” wrench to remove the negative battery terminal, so I ground the nut down to 12mm. Much better.

Now I can remove the battery terminals and battery with one, 12mm wrench. Just simplifying my life.
Make your own. Try using the metric square nuts from a 2F ignition coil bracket and/or an F or 2F engine distributor hold down clamp. Screw in a metric bolt, weld it in, and grind it flush - then call it a day.

Can someone please share what this hardtop side corner is supposed to look like? And some measurements?

I don’t have pics of the functional part of this job, just the cosmetic. I pulled the heater blower out to redo the weather stripping in hopes of getting fewer engine compartment fumes when fresh air knob is pulled. All the weather stripping had turned to dust. I have a couple thicknesses of adhesive backed foam weather stripping in my tool box. It was easy to cut and paste into the needed shapes for the blower box. The blend door operates so nice and seals nicely now that it’s cleaned and re foamed. To clean the housing I used simple green and a nylon brush, followed by scrubbing with a manic eraser. Then I used a meguilars product for re-saturating chalky faded plastics.

As I went it install the blower I was met with a scale covered firewall. Simple Green and some elbow grease got this section of the fire wall shined up nicely.

Last for today was installing a new antenna. The PO painted over the original, plus the little plastic upper mount had eroded to almost nothing, so it felt really good to finally replace this with new OEM antenna.

Headed out Thursday for a Thanksgiving dinner ... wife & son went ahead of me as I was waiting for my 8 month old daughter to wake from nap. Logistics required I take the FJ40 ... and with my daughter for the first time ever. So, rear facing car seat install (I have the TrailMax II Fold and Tumble). Headed out ... gauge low but I've been lower ... I'll get gas AFTER dinner when my wife can take my daughter back in the minivan.

Cruising along, she's loving the ride ... rounded the last turn onto destination fancy street in Burlingame California ... sputter, sputter ... lost power ... OUT OF GAS ... quietly coasted into a parking spot about 2 houses short of where I would have parked. Walked my daughter inside like nothing ever happened!

Left the 40 overnight as to not interrupt Thanksgiving day flow. Returned the next day with a can of fuel and learned that it can take a while to restart a Sniper fuel-injected 40. Multiple questioning looks from fancy Burlingame neighborhood folks as I tried and tried to get it to fire (cycled fuel pump about 30 times, tried all manner of desperate accelerator tapping) ... sent a desperation text to Georg @ Valley Hybrids for help ... went back to prior night's Thanksgiving feast house to say hello ... pivoted to some socializing and Christmas tree gazing ... went back for a last-ditch attempt ... cycled the fuel pump another 5 or so times and voila, suddenly heard the pickup of fuel from the tank ... and it started.

So that's the short story about running out of fuel for the first time in my life ... and my daughter's first ride in the 40. Still a huge fan of the Sniper. Sorry for the random text @orangefj45!

Finished cleaning underhood with about 10hrs total laquer thinner scrubbing to get black firewall and fender paint off. Still more to do. Bought a 3 speed floor shift from a nice young kid with a very clean ’73, and got that installed. Installed steering column boot. Went for my first cruise in the ‘69. Needs new fuel delivery (pump and carb) and timing work, probably a valve adjustment due to all the backfiring. Massive exhaust leak and what looks like a cracked exhaust manifold. Have some research to do on what is best for ignition for these F engines. Really thrilled with the look of the 33’s on stock wheels.

Before and after underhood:

Glad to find time to finish install of shims/shocks/shackles on the rear end but I failed miserably at ‘multitasking’ i.e. wrenching, drinking, football viewing, watching over our surgery recovering pooch!

So after game #1 of the day was done, I head out to garage, finish up, and decide to crank her up to run for a bit before starting game #2…. Only on maybe beer 3 at this point - run back in the house to check on my ‘patient’ when I had this bad feeling that I’d forgotten something really significant…. something sounds ‘different’ in the garage and I realize that my pride and joy is running……….. in gear!

It is written: “God watches out for drunks and fools” THAT was the only successful multitasking I can claim for today because I was both!

Of note: Glad I previously installed a missing e-brake (worked flawlessly) and thankfully the front wheels were chocked…..

Also thankful my wife was away in this dumb a$$ moment 🤣
Thinking I’ll just stick with drinking and football for the rest of this day!
Before I "like" your post, who were you pulling for in the game?

Always do my best to steer away from discussion of: politics, religion, and COLLEGE FOOTBALL! 🤣
It was a hell of a good game though…..

I went on a run to China Wall with a bunch of the Colorado Land Cruiser Guys. It was a ton of fun, so I threw together a bunch of clips from the run.

I let my friends mess around on the wall, so there are a bunch of different drivers for the same obstacle.

One of my steering shaft bearings got some dust in it, causing the horrible squeak in my wheel, but that got sorted ASAP with some graphite lube.

Anyways, enjoy the 40 doing 40 things.
