I used quite a bit of epoxy putty and JB weld when I refurbed my top a few months ago. No judgement from me!

stock steel hood sanded smooth and primed , the windshield frame was in good shape since it's fiberglass

now the tub and fenders prep
PO was a chrome type , me not much , he custom made part like turn signal guard , front bumper and reinforcement for the rear sill and front bib out of stainless that he polish to a mirror finish ( alot of work ) those parts will never rust ,so i keep those , but other parts like windshield and hood hinges are chrome plated and starting to rust , so those parts are going back to body color like factory
