Carb cooling fan has decided to go on strike and while I don’t believe it to be an ‘essential worker’ - I do think it helps it warm weather! I am not gifted in diagnosing electrical issues but can change out parts so....... I cleaned the sensor good then tracked down a replacement cooling fan computer thingy as well as a new relay. Didn’t get to test it out today but hopefully the carb will get a nice blow job tomorrow 🤣

Another option may be to look at what @GA Architect, Rick did on his ‘77. He used a fan run with a switch and timer with good results. Makes a huge difference on my ‘78 when in the Mtns in the summer. I know Rick has gone FI now but I bet he will share with you his former setup.

FYI. My previous 79 model 40 which I owned for 5 years never had a carb cooling Fan now resides on the east coast of FL never had a problem. Trollhole carb desmogged. My current 78 model 40, Does not have a carb cooling fan. Cali spec desmogged hasnt had a problem. We’ll see how is does in the 90 plus degree heat of July and August

Oh I agree it’s not an absolute necessity but because it is a part of my truck and it USED to work...... I’d like to figure it out!

Thanks...... I did and it’s a PITA to get to; along with the box and relay!

I replaced the box and relay - after a drive today..... no worky 🤬
Thinking I have an issue with either the sensor or the wiring between sensor and fan (hell, could be both)....
Can ground the fan to make it work so I know the fan is good!

Picked up a fun little toy on ebay. Took of the top and picked up a bikini top from SOR. Install was a breeze. Added a few new holes to the metal tiger channel to match up with the existing holes, which I put m5 rivnuts in.

Over the last few years I’ve been slowly building trust in my 1966 by taking it to rougher and more remote places. Yesterday took it to explore a branch of the Oregon trail known as the Applegate trail in some remote country along the Oregon/California border.

I also had to rebuild the rear diff. If you've browsed through my build thread you have seen the mess already!

Your temp sensor is bent. Maybe it's broken internally. You could try a heat gun on it to see if it works after heated up.

Morning Mud -

Happy Memorial Day. Thanks to all of the Veterans for giving us the opportunity to relax today in the freedom of our homes.

Removed and replaced both mirrors today. I had bought a set of mirror arms about a year ago, finally got them powder coated. Paired those with some new mirror glass and installed. Old brackets and arms will head to the powder coater in the coming month as spares.

Thanks
Lake

Replaced the rear speakers. Sounds A LOT better now...

Also added NOAM4 front speakers to the roll bar. Eventually plan to make brackets to attach them to the ends of the roll bar (it’s either that or cut the open foam roll bar pads that I really don’t want to do...)

Got GRNMCHN up to rolling chassis status. I am fairly sure we are the first dive into this truck for more than some grease here and there for 46 years. The hard top had NEVER been removed. It was welded on including the rubber seal. Or what was left of it.

Actually... Check that last statement. Some idiot got into the engine at one point and nearly ruined it. So the only real work done all that time was BAD work.

I have always been too chicken to rebuild a diff and had a local shop do it.
But I may end up doing it on my current build.

@Alex Waddell

It's definitely a pain in the backside, it boils down to trial and error. If you have a good baseline it would make things easier.
