Took advantage of another wonderful 60*+ day here in the south to adjust the doors, paint some scratches where I scratched the doors during installation and fix some wiring issues. The stainless steel paint looks terrific against the black doors and the stainless steel hardware adds a little bling as well.

Speaking of bling, I need a door handle for the passenger door, does anyone have an extra?

Been a busy week (okay, maybe two). While waiting for our paint & body guy, we powder coated all the interior gray pieces, and did the upholstering. Dog is thrilled to be able to sit in the seats again! In deference to my wife, we scrounged some headrests from a Pathfinder and had them welded into the front seat frames. SOR wouldn't sell us any of their coral fabric, but we're starting to like the gray contrast.

This is a '67, so the gray is not the silvery pewter, but I missed a bit on the match- should be a touch greener, a touch glossier, and with a tiny bit of metallic... oh well, what's done is done, and we're pretty happy.

Dupli Color SS100 Stainless Steel paint in a rattle can. Looks good, dries quickly but the coverage is a little slim. Still a good color. My son took the parts to the sand blast cabinet at his work and did an excellent job with removing the old paint and rust. I could not have done it without him. Two coats of a self etching primer and then stainless steel paint.

Just one thing... with the greatest respect. That bumper... on a build of this high quality black is not even an option, it HAS to be the correct silver (pewter) colour.

That is actually original! A little ArmorAll and it does look new.
Can't find the paper ducts that connect from there to the defrosters, but I ordered some aircraft ducting that at least is the right size and looks cool.

I just completed a top repair. The top was a mess, dirty, several layers of cracked and missing paint and the gel coat was cracked which looked more like spider webs. I found a boat repair shop nearby and one of their fiberglass techs filled in the dents from where a tree or a limb fell on it, flattened it nicely then applied one layer of glass and another of cheese cloth and sanded smooth. They even sprayed a coat of gel coat which I sanded smooth to get rid of the bubbles then it was painted a bright white, NAPA Cross/Fire urethane enamel Glare White. Very bright and very smooth.

Found this on Etsy. The seller is Old School Toyota. It took 10 days from the time I made the order to actually be delivered. Certainly the slowest delivery I have encountered in a long time. Bought two so I could keep the spare keys locked up in the safe.

Ordered LED bulbs based on an updated list on Trollholes LED thread. The two bulb shields did require modification for 194-WWHP5’s to fit. I cringed, but tore my cluster apart anyway. Figured I’d post for those who are thinking about LED’s.

Cleaned up some contacts during the process.

Started routine maintenance on the 45 for an upcoming Death Valley trip. Valve adjustment even though no specific indications on the cab mounted vacuum gauge. Three intakes and two exhausts marginally tight.

By happenstance I discovered that my battery tray was starting to come loose (one of many not-so-unusual byproducts of regular off road use). So off it comes, everything gets a good cleaning, including the AGM battery @Spike Strip recommended to me almost 4years ago, and treated to a fresh holddown clamp. Front spring and shackle bushings next.

I went with green 5050 LED strip. Not nearly this bright in person...not blinding at all. In my opinion, Toyota's design of the main housing is to evenly distribute the light using the white paint. Trick is to not mount the strip on the white painted surface, but in a way that it can reflect off of it. Based on the design of the hood and plates. the speedo should be lit from the top and sides, while the bottom gauges lit from beneath. At least that is how I saw the function of the design. I only have 6 leds on top and 6 on the bottom...plus 3 white leds behind the odometer. I will post up some photos of the inside after i feed the kids.

Replaced all the bearings axles and seals on my front differential and repacked with fresh grease. Happy Birfday to my new to me 82... Added new rotors, calipers and pads while I was at it. Thanks to @cruiseroutfit for getting me everything I needed and quickly. Took about twice as long as I had planned with all the cleaning, a stripped drain bolt and brake line. Gotta love old rigs...

Ordered some new rear spring perches/plates, rear cross member, support brackets and frame channel pieces from BTB (my frame is in amazing shape up front, and a disaster along the open back channel should probably just name my rig the Mullet), bushings, body kit and new mounting bolts and nuts.

Also on the list will be new quarter panels, floor pans, rockers, sills and a lot of weatherstripping/gaskets, new hoses, fuel lines, brake lines and vacuum lines. Also picked up a needle scaler, wire wheels, and lots of Eastwood frame products. Should be a fun project.


Going to start a frame off build thread soon, which will include a lot of rust removal, body prep, and a fresh coat of Freeborn Red. Stay tuned!
