Best Father's Day ever! Spent the morning sitting in the shade with my wife and daughter, then decided to clean the barn after 25 years. I could barely move in there with all the filthy crap piled on other crap. Going through the rotten boxes piled up in the back, I found one that was unopened, so took a look inside...Score!! one big item checked off on my rust repair list

Added a transmission / xfer case bypass hose courtesy of @shipmag - this is a great design and very well built!

Beautiful country out there!!

My wife and I went for a little drive down the creek and I broke out the fly rod for a bit. I keep forgetting to take a picture of the 40 in the background. It did great and I'm loving the low gearing of my recently installed sm420.

So...rkymtnflyfisher must know more about doing a rebuild than I. After getting the poor 3/4 tub off I have found a poor frame. I could patch it in many places or get real ambitious and replace the frame rails from the mid tube cross member back and still not be completely happy with its condition for my 365 dd. But not is all lost...I have a 63 FJ40L which has been sitting for 13 years on a rolling restored frame and I just put the matching F135 on it last year, I have most of the parts except, here we go again, the cowling is good but the 3/4 tub is shot. I've been convinced by my dad and several friends to utilize this frame for my rebuild, Toyoda must have used far better steel back in 63 as this frame is in better shape than several other frames I have for a 71 and two 78s that have rusted badly. The only "corundum" as "Tractordoc" posted is the difference of the tubular cross member aft of the transfer case and emergency brake, I think its going to be tight. Any help with solutions would be welcome. I know that to get the trans/transfer in I'll have to drop the rear of the engine. So for a simple body replacement it has become a wheels up restoration!!!! I'll also be parting out the 63 and have an album here on mud that has photos of most of what I have for it if you or someone you know is looking for 63 FJ40L parts send them my way.

Got the tub unloaded and put on the frame. Pretty dramatic difference.

Bout time to make a build thread before long.

Had to add shims at the main beam I was off about 3/16" on both sides, at least it was the same on both sides. Used some belting to cut them out of.

Can't believe I forgot to get pics of the fenders, they came out nice. I'll get some tom.
I had forgotten all about the bib, with my son coming in on leave. Ended up having to do some more cutting, this should be the last of it...I hope! Working together with my son made it all good though.

Marked it, cut it out, cleaned it up and painted with weld through primer. Then welded her up.

Had to get a pic of him, I'm way proud of my boys. We'll fix the other side tom. and hopefully get the fenders and aprons mounted.

What have I done my Land Cruiser today?

Dealing with my multiple vehicle syndrome I sold it !

The psychologist is very happy about my progress, but is not satisfied at all yet, more has to go and nothing can be bought,

3 40's gone and yesterday a FJ45 Troopy FST 1983

Seems a 43 is on the way out also

Hard and sad times ......., but I will get better
