Got some new to me jump seats from @SnodawgFJ40 great condition and excellent packing job btw. So I installed those not before removing the hardtop for the first time probably since it went on some time in early 1980s from PO.

Also bought a bikini top and threw that on as well. Then we took it out for a little drive this morning. Still gotta clean it out a little but really excited for this. I've never actually experienced this feeling of being able to remove the hard top on my driving FJ40. Pretty cool.

few more pics. who doesn't like pics.
I did find a bit of rust under the hard top which I guess was to be expected but hadn't really thought how much. seems like it was pretty good but I'm hoping it is not rotted through the metal and I can still clean it up.

I know I didn't remove the old bench seat that's because I still use it for the kids every once in a while but I still really wanted to put the jump seats in so there's that.

Ok last few I promise.
I don't have the license plate on right now but I need to buy one of those metal plates that I can put there to cover the gap where the ambulance doors go. Anyone have the "best" idea for that? I've seen several options out there but not sure which one is too cheap or rattles or whatever.

Someone just posted up a nice plastic one in the 40 tech section. Off eBay. Apparently a high end polymer, not plastic, etc. looked like a good option to me, especially for those not playing a matching panel game!

:)No "kidlinks" at my house :frown:......hope to have grandbabies crawling around in mine someday.

Working on the bumper. It's a bolt on. It's moved to the rear away from frame to accommodate a swing out spare tire carrier assembly. As this is a 1973, I needed 2" clearance away from rearward most portion of tub to clear latches for the doors. The oval plate will bolt to the existing 8 holes of the braces, where the rivets used to be.

The airborne on the '76 was a mess and missing the all important upper and lower filter gaskets. As these are NLA from Toyota I made some using 1/4 thick weatherstrip from the People's Republic of China aka Wal Mart.

What did you do to the steering wheel?!? Repaint? If not, how'd you clean it to such a shine?

Thanks for the words. Its a paint job. I sanded down the whole thing, primered sanded some more, then shot it with epoxy gloss black. I've done a couple this way and it holds up really well.

All I have been able to do sence installing the temp gauge is think of my next move to get it running normal. I came down with pneumonia and I have been out of Commission . Plus my son tells me the the landcruiser is leaking something so that is killing me I don't have the strength to even go look at it.

Take it easy!! Pneumonia is tougher than mere mortals.

Look at it this way... Maybe it will quit leaking by the time you can get to it.

Finished the installed on the Stewart Warner water temp & oil pressure gauges and vintage CB this weekend. Finally some piece of mind when it comes to monitoring the engine vitals. The 50+ year old OE gauges still work but I was looking for improved accuracy.

Those gauges are smart looking. Mechanical or electrical gauges?
