What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week? (33 Viewers)

I drove it for the first time. The three on the tree made things quite interesting. With the dented rim and bad wheel it couldn't go over 30 but it finally made it home to my driveway.
New lights all around comes next.

Lots of different headlight options... Personally I couldn't be happier with the Hella pair I pulled out of a Mercedes at the wreckers 25 years ago. The light cutoff is sharp and they're brighter than most new cars headlights (even with 55/60 W bulbs). I ran 90/100 W bulbs for years, but got tired of them burning out once a year... They were brighter, but stock are plenty bright. For a while I also ran 55/100 W which is a good compromise. Street legal low beams and extra bright high beams.

finished getting the h42 t-case addapted to the H55f for the 5 speed conversion. had to swap out the vacuum stuff for mechanical, modify all the linkages for the mechanical shift from the h42, new home made 'gate' bracket thing on the shifter. I didnt get a shift lever with my $300 second hand h55f, and not wanting to use the h42 one as its a different shape I decided to make my own with the ball profile on the end.

Also patched up the trans cover, I decided to spot weld a patch in to avoid warpage and the results seem pretty good and it only took a couple of hours to do.

Also re-machined the flywheel as it was a bit rough.

Awesome job! Wish i could get a 55F for that price....but alas the cheapest ive seen is ~5x what you paid

I am trying to move forward with the install of the transmission and transfer case but I ran into a small problem

It's like this in two spots.i tried tightening everything evenly but it ends up like this .so i switch gears and did some clean up work and a little paint work

I asked this in a new thread but maybe you guys might know .i was cleaning the drive shafts so I could paint them and found this . Does anyone know what it's supposed to line up with

Looks like maybe match marks(only one) that are put on the shaft when you take the slide apart??

@BJ42Adam Wow that shifter looks beautiful. are you going to make more? I will be first in line to buy one if you do.
I will make sure it works properly first! This one doesn't have the plastic bush on the end like a proper h55 one has. I just made the ball to fit snugly inside the cup in the box. It seems to shift through every gear smoothly so far, although the box isnt in yet so will let you know when I test drive it.

Well, to be honest, I tried UNSUCCESSFULLY to burn 44 down this week... so, I'm very lucky!! :bounce:

What an idiot I am!! I won't go into details here... suffice it to say, I did something really stupid... but, not nearly the stupidest thing I've ever done, I'm sorry to say... I've posted a complete confession in another thread... if you really want to know, you'll need to find that post. :(

But, I did vaporize the fusible link and melt the insulation off of the 10 ga WL wire, from the alternator to the ammeter... I won't know about the ammeter or voltage regulator until I get it all back together... I've pulled the alternator to have it checked.

I've pulled and inspected the harness and the 10 ga WL is a total loss... I have several other wires that either had the insulation melted off for 1/2" - 2", or it pulled off when I separated it from the 10 ga WL wire... but, they are all intact.

I've spoke to Mark (@Coolerman) and he assures me that the smaller wires can simply be taped (to replace the insulation)... he has also offered to build a new WL for me... but, with his eyesight issues, I'm really hesitant to take him up on it... I don't want to be responsible for overtaxing his eyes.

Since 44 is 38 years of age, I think it might be a better idea to simply build a new harness, rather than putting the old wires back in... so, I've asked Mark to price out a kit of all the wire colors, terminals, connectors, fusible link, etc. and I'll build it myself.

So, while I initially :slap: myself, I have since recovered and am now :bounce2: for joy... I still have 44 and still have the house... it's all behind me and I'll have 44 back :steer: before the weather becomes tolerable again.

Please don't try to emulate me...

@pngunme With these old trucks it sure is hard to know what best to do with the wiring. I ran a jumper to make my taillights work again... and then picked up a new wiring harness when I came across one for a decent price. I hope I have better luck than the 40 owner I bought it off. It's a Quickwire Harness and its PO kept blowing the main fuse. He ended up parting out the 40... I didn't have the heart to tell him that a cruiser needs more than 25 amps... and that was likely why the main fuse kept blowing.

Just need to find the time and motivation to install it... hopefully not the way you found motivation to fix your wiring.

Trust me John... I'm completely self-motivating...

Registered it & put license plates on it, took the top off, hooked up the tach, repaired the blinker switch, installed an original steering wheel, eliminated a few rattles, mounted a Tuffy console & put in a new transfer case extension housing gasket.
