Spent some time with Elsie... The failing coil pack finally bit the dust. #1 cylinder, the easiest one to do. That was the coil I swapped from the #2 cylinder into #1 back in March when my first coil failed. Now I am wondering if I'm starting a string of coil failures. Of course, with 245K miles, things like that are bound to happen. Also had to replace a O2 sensor back a couple of weeks ago.

I also gave Elsie a little pampering too. I went to the local pick & pull and found some 400hz/500hz horns off of a 2006 Tundra. They were plug & play. While not as loud as the Toyota Premiums from E-Bay, $8 is better than $100+ and I have instant gratification of a real horn. Now my truck actually sounds like a TRUCK instead of a Corolla.

Also removed the wipers & cowl grill. Cleaned and painted the wiper arms and also cleaned the cowl grill and conditioned the plastic. For the moment, it is black instead of sun faded grey. I am thinking about getting one of those plastic coating kits to see if it will last for a while.

I am borrowing a 23' trailer from my parents for a road trip to Oregon in June and wanted to do a "test tow" to know how things would go and to see if I needed to do anything to my rig before the trip. I had previously added 25mm pucks to the rear springs to get my AHC back into decent spec as well as a fluid flush.

Today I did the tow and was pleased with how it all went. I didn't have any issues with my AHC and in fact it adjusted right up to 'normal' height as soon as I shut all the doors like normal. With a brake controller I didn't have any problem stopping. I'm used to using the skinny pedal and with the trailer I didn't have the power that I'm used to but it was certainly manageable. The one big complaint I had was that my mirrors were useless. I am going to work to find some extended tow mirrors (hopefully to borrow) to actually see around the trailer. But that should be all I need to do, I guess other than save my pennies because the mileage is going to SUCK...

Washed all the cruisers...

Then got mine dirty :)

Stops sending dirty, sooty, hot air back into the combustion chamber...

Do you have a piggyback or standalone ECU to correct the tune for that? I run no EGR on my other vehicle, but the ECU's specifically set-up for it.

I'm not sure about a diesel, but on a gasoline engine blocking off the EGR without correcting the factory tune (which accounts for the EGR) can, and usually does, lead to the engine running dangerously lean (and much hotter) when under load. The EGR system cools combustion chambers as well, so you're now going to run hotter and the engine will see more knocking/detonation.

EGR is primarily for emissions, but it affects much more than just the air coming out of the tailpipe.

Completely different for diesel. Diesel applications can run lean or rich and not affect perfprmance of engine, that's the beauty of diesel. Fuel doesn't have to be as accurate as it is for gas engines. And removing/blocking the egr for diesel is usually beneficial as diesel produces a lot more black soot and carbon buildup than any gas engine could ever produce.

What wire is in the white flexible tube on the right? I had my dash apart disabling the AHC light and saw the white tube. Mine, a 2000, is empty, no wires.

@superdawg sorry for the delay not sure if you got and answer mine would be "I have no idea" it looks like an air sensor or something I cleaned it out but it snaps into the lower dash and has a screw that is a pain on the back side

I thought the "auto" settings on my HVAC didnt work. I connected that tube to the sensor on the backside of the lower dash and "auto" worked again.

Exactly....

Replaced worn 275/70R16 MS2s with 285/75R16 KO2s. Love them :D. Was worried the E load rating would kill the plush LX ride but I think it got better in some areas (running 36f/38r psi for now). Small road imperfections seem to be dampened better and handling is only slightly worse than the Michelin highway tires.

Had new boots put on the CV joints, front and rear diff oil changed, transfer case oil changed.

HIH6 prep in full effect with rebuilt half shafts from CVJ in Denver, with super special red Porsche boots. I have no idea if they are Porsche boots, but they are heavy duty and both are longer than stock. They recommended the inner boot if you were only doing one. Kinda spendy @$55ea.

View attachment 1260497 Finally had the emu wing installed. While I could have installed it myself, I let a pro glass guy do the work. That way if anything were to happen, (i.e. leaks, etc.) I'll finally have someone other than myself to blame! :)

sweet! Did you tint them or is that the shade they come in?

The glass I bought is a clear safety glass. I had it tinted at 5% which will match the rest of my cargo area.

They also make an emu wing in powder coated aluminum which in all honesty is the way to go bc you won't ever need to worry about it breaking but I opted for the glass this time.

Just replaced the hatch struts and am so happy with it! No more pushing the thing up!
Simple but something to celebrate after getting very pissed off at sears trying to replace a battery that won't fully recharge and dealing with their shop guy stupid arrogant attitude! It takes a LOT to upset me like he did! I did not get the battery but the fight isn't over yet!
