Say hello to my little friend

Took the Cruiser and the family (me, wife, and my three daughters) out shooting in the Capital State Forest. Good times. Went over safety with my two youngest. It wasn't my oldest first time.

I hear you on the safety. I am sure the sliders are very easy to break into.

flat screwdriver to pop the plastic external part of the bracket .. ( could save your ass if you let your keys inside too )

Helped a friend clean up some trees from the Black Forest fire - you can see where the house once stood in the background :(

Got some firewood out of the deal, but its going to be hugely messy to use it.

At least it appears to have been a ground fire rather than crown fire.

New pines should start growing in the spring, iirc.

(crown fires involve exploding trees. It's a bad scene.)

Took mine up Mosquito Pass between Alma and Aspen. Beautiful up there, but I chickened out about 2 miles from the top. It got pretty gnarly, I was driving solo, and don't yet have the right tires (coming soon).

There was plenty of crown fire as well, though only a little on this property. That big stump on the left, and some more behind and to the left had the crown burnt out. The fire was very spotty - I've heard the term mosaic used, and that's the write word for it. Patches of unburnt forest intermingled with ground fire and intense crown fire. About 1/2 mile south is completely burnt off and is where the two people died.

I did a test bend with some aluminum tubing. I wasn’t sure how well 6061-T6 would bend but it was successful, so I started laying out my roof rack. The main structure is 1” x .125 wall and the floor grid (not in model yet) will be 5/8” or ¾” x 065.
Bent up the main perimeter and started on the rest of the bits. I think it should weigh in about 60-70lb complete (minus the lights themselves and tent).

Wrestled with the transfer case fill plug. Transfer case is winning. But, I did not make the mistake of draining it first :)

I finally had to hammer a socket on to it and just manhandle it. Once you get it out, get a new one with a new crush washer and anti seize. Don't over torque. Enjoy!

I must admit... I am very surprised at some of those vehicles making it to where they were on that video.

What we don't know if they make it out .. ( one piece and on it's own power ) :D

P.S. and I will love to see how few struggle in the way out ..

Out with the old shocks and in with the new. The old ones served me well and had over 100,000 miles of work. I was impressed and decided to stick with OME. Thanks to slee for great service!!

Took part in the Pismo Beach Huckfest 2013, A truck jumping competition we do on the sand dunes. My 80 and I were on the lip of the jump running the traffic lights to keep it all safe. This video shows what we do and highlights some cool trucks. The guy shooting some of this footage was standing on my tailgate to get it. Enjoy!

Let me know how you like the OME sports. I am thinking of going that route since i had good luck out of my current OME's.

Several of my coworkers went. They said it was mayhem, never seen so many people on the dunes.

Monstalined my flare areas and reinstalled my derusted and repainted sliders. Is that good enough for you, Christian??? :flipoff2:
