That's very awesome. Contrary to popular belief around here, it's perfectly acceptable to fit a rear bumper with swingouts to an otherwise stock 80.

Is that painted gray to match the flare color on your LX?

That was the attempt. Its not exact, but seeing as I'm in no mood to fill in a thousand little holes to remove the flares and cladding, I figured I'd see if the powder coater could make something approximate.

You up the street from RHJH?

Traded my built 78 FJ40 for a Built 97 40th Anny. I now have (4) 80 series. Going to list my 91 and 96 80 Series for sale to clear some spots in the driveway.

Cleaned the dog hair out (from 2 PO's ago) from the interior of the 80 and wrote down a list of to-do's

1. Get rid of 1999 Garmin GPS system
2. Purchase Rear Seatbelts for the 3rd row (including the middle one from an early 90's model)
3. Replace right tail-light
4. Fix Alarm system
5. Put bike rack up on top

vinyl wrap and across canada

This is sort of a months worth of what i did with my 80 this weekend.
It started at the beginning of august, I drove down to Calgary and had my peeling paint job vinyl wrapped by Natty.
Then I drove about 5000km to get to halifax, NS. I drove 18 hours for 2 days across the prairies and around the north shore of lake superior. I blew a tire on my trailer in the middle of the night just past Dryden, ON, and after a quick call out, I had 2 brand new tires and an old one for a spare.
I had a small starting issue; after sustained highway speeds my 1HD-T would be cooking hot, and I think it was affecting my series-parallel switch. If I turned off my rig, she wouldn't start for a good 45 mins while it cooled off. So I started hot fuelling at gas stations. If the attendants had a problem with my rig running at the pump, I would park to the side and fill pales then fill the Cruiser. This only happened twice. And the pales came in handy on some of the longer lonelier stretches in the middle of the night.
I arrived in Toronto where I visited a girlfriend and put my fender flares back on, picked up a couple of passengers to help with gas and drove for 25 hours straight to get to halifax. This includes a 2-hour-traffic-jam accident on the 401, detour into Ottawa rush hour and rush hour through Montreal.
I arrived at the ocean!
I spent almost 2 weeks tooling around the Maritimes, then I packed up my trailer with stuff from storage and started driving back west.
My Uncle came with as a co-pilot. To Toronto took 19 hours, we drove for 36 hours out of Toronto taking shifts and stopped in Langham, SK for a 1 hr nap to wait for a fuel station to open. Arriving in Grande Prairie, AB 10 hours after that.
When all was said and done, we put on 12000km, 6000 eastward in 77 hours behind the wheel; 1000 around the Maritimes and 5000 westward in 68 hours
hauling about 2 tons of stuff. I burned 839 L going east-ostensibly downhill all the way with a tailwind- and 1036 coming back. I rolled over 222222 km in the middle of the night, and kept of trucking.
I will be changing all the fluids and filters after this trip, and trying to address my series-parallel switch.
Man, what a country Canada is!

here are some photos I couldn't attach the first time. IMG_20130809_121446.webp

I installed my rear third member with the new 5.29's and ARB...then ran into trouble on the front! After two days and several hours of trying to get it in, I quit when I dropped it on my chest! I'm too old for this crap! Now I've got to get some local guys to give me a hand...I must be missing something...it just doesn't want to go in!

Mine took a lot of finagling with factory 4.10's. Does the housing/ring gear have to be shaved for 5.29's?

Opened my garage and toolbox to "help" a buddy do his front end rebuild. Due to recent surgery I was only able to sit in a chair and read off the instructions for him, only missed a step once, which cost him an hour!! Oops! Step #6 was not missed though! I was able to lend a hand once or twice, so it was a wash maybe.

Changed the phh and other hoses. Was not bad at all and my daughter was a big help!

Monstalined mine!

looks a bit.....upside down.

Rescued a guy in a Land Rover that got in way, way over his head. Easily could have killed himself and his fiance. They were just tooling around on some dirt roads, and came over a rise and didn't look ahead before starting down. They slid all the way to the low point and were saved from going over the edge by the white rock you see in the picture. (As usual pictures don't do a good job of showing how steep or off camber the trail was).

It took some pretty creative rigging and 4 vehicles to get him out. The road out was so steep and loose, that I had to put my 80 at the top of the hill to be an anchor for the mog so he could winch himself when it wouldn't tow the Rover. Hot as hell by 11am, then a big cold storm came in and dropped the temp 20 degrees almost immediately, very weird.

Installed a tri pillar gauge pod and a new fuel pressure gauge in addition to the others.

Then used my cruiser as a tow vehicle for my boat. Coming in at the end of boating, my high dollar" farm and truck battery " would not start the cruiser. My second battery and flaming river battery switch saved the day. Take that wife for telling me that I work on my cruiser too much.

Changed Oil & Filter

Yep, 2 gallons of 15W-40 Delo 400 and a Pure One filter. Next time I'm gonna buy Shell Rotella based on the recommendations on Mud.
The 80 always drives better after an oil change, kinda like after getting the Deluxe car wash.

Replaced rear diff lock actuator due to corrosion.:censor:

Replaced spare tire winch due to corrosion.:censor:

Repaired various lines leaking due to corrosion.:censor:

Seriously, why do they allow salt on the roads? Isn't there some DEP thing that we in the rust belt states could throw at the DOT to make them stop? It's eating my truck!:bang:

The good news is that with all the lockers locked this rig is now raised to new heights of awesomeness!:steer::clap::beer:

Installed fumoto quick valve, new belts and fresh oil & filter

Second weekend with the cruiser. Changed the oil & filter and installed a Fumoto quick valve. Also removed the front drive shaft which has a bad u-joint. The source of my vibration.
Next weekend coolant flush, since it looks like the PO mixed red and green coolant, and installing the DS with new u-joints.

Found some time to finish tearing down the 8274. I have used the dremel brush, wire brush, brake cleaner, and degreaser. Still work to be done before paint.
