Changed out my tie rod ends (tie rod and drag link) and that wasn't too bad. Had to use the torch for the tie rod. When I thought I was finished I spotted a bit of f*cking rust ! I remembered seeing it and thought it would be a quick sand and paint...but it was not to be. Every once in a while I would hear the "SLOSH" sound but thought it might be my 5 gallon scepter but it really didn't sound exactly like that. Long story short..there was a pint or so of water sloshing around the rocker and it, along with the frickn salt in winter here, started a rust spot on the driver's rear. Fixed it by cutting the rust out and making a small replacement piece. All good now. I shot a bunch more Fluid Film in the rockers, Luckily I do this almost every year before winter.
Does anyone have a part number for the rocker sill drain plugs? Is this it? 9095001871

Leave the plugs out. Water can't collect anymore.

I want the plugs back in to keep all the dust and trash out. I cleaned the pinch weld drains using a bigger zip-tie and I'll just do that periodically. A clogged pinch weld drain was the reason for the water collecting in that side of the rocker. The other side was ok because the pinch weld drains were clear.

Replaced the bushings and ball joints in the front sway bar today. Now that it's done it wasn't that bad. Hit a few surprises from overlooking the wiring harnesses bolted to the bar.

Was excited to get out and wheeling with @JacobDewey22 and his newly acquired LX450 on 40s. He bought the truck and drove it straight back from Redmond and met me in Aspen.

We ended up doing Taylor Pass. When climbing up the pass on the Aspen side which is pretty mild, his truck started running pretty hot. It was manageable for most the drive up (low 200s to 215) but towards the top it started getting a pretty damn hot (low to high 220s). It was running in the 220s right as we hit the summit, and parking it into the wind it cooled right down back to 186.

We thought that would be the worst of it as it was now the air temperature was cooling off for the day, and it was all downhill. And for the first half of the descent it was doing just fine. Then of course, right when the trail got gnarly it started getting really hot really fast. We took the hood off it as we thought it was a lack of airflow issue. The fan clutch was clearly shot not moving much air at all. Taking the hood off did nothing, and about 1-2 minutes after running it would instantly get really hot.

He was running the heater most of the day when it was running hot but at some point on the descent the heater stopped blowing hot air.

At this point I figured thermostat and since we had a spare, we decided to throw one in. We put it in and tried to bleed the system the best we could for where we were but still, no luck.

We did our best to remedy the situation, just letting it cool then nurse it down the trail, rinse and repeat.

He lives in Gunnison and the most efficient thing for us to do was to get the truck to Gunnison where it is at his place and safe.

Eventually we got it down the pass and made it to the dirt road that connects to Taylor Park, and Gunnison. We threw a strap on my truck and I dragged him the 40 some odd miles into town and got his truck back safely.

Quite the adventure and we had fun, but big bummer for him and the truck. I hope it’s an easy solution. It’s clear it needs a new fan clutch, and it has a aftermarket radiator cap that needs to be switched. The radiator looks newish. But I think at this point he should just redo the whole cooling system and start from scratch.

Rear sway bar bushings replaced except for the upper ones that Toyota calls cushions, the small round ones near the frame. Overlooked those when I was purchasing bushings but should be easy enough to swap out later.

@Andrew Bluemel Nice to see Taylor is open all the way! Have you heard or seen anything with Pearl?

I took apart the drivers side mirror in the hopes of finding the culprit for lack of retraction in the powered mirrors. Sadly, nothing. Looks like the whole unit has to be replaced instead of replacing smaller parts. Something is binding during the retraction cycle, the extension of the mirrors works fine.

I replaced all of the window wipers and replaced the driver side window inner seal. I had to take the door card off which was an adventure but it is done and all back together. I also tightened up one of the lower rear door operating rods as it was rattling really bad. No more rattle.

Are those oem wiper blades? You are a true purist. Just curious how much they cost, I am tempted to try them out
