Picked up a rear hatch n tailgate and a steering box for $500 planning on rebuilding the box and slapping it in. Stole the rear dust deflector, tailgate handle and mechanism from donor and put them in. I didn't need the hatch n tailgate but... you never know plus its hard getting parts out here.

Baseline is not fun, but necessary! Good looking rigs
I'm kind of enjoying baselining...it can be frustrating but, I like to work on my vehicle. I can't on my DD, so this scratches my itch.

After owning my '97 for almost 8 years (and 23K miles put on), I was finally in a position last May to begin baselining. I have people around me (non-cruiser owners) who said I should skip it and just lift her and put bigger tires on her.

I stared at them, wide-eyed.

I learned thirty years ago when I was 15 with my dad in the garage, on any vehicle, "Make sure she runs and runs RIGHT before you do any of that other stupid stuff..."

That has stuck with me for 30 years.

So, last May, first thing, new Cooper Adventurer 265/75R16 tires because the others were dangerously bad.
Then the entire cooling system, all OEM (Aug).
Then the Fuel Filter and U-Joints, all OEM
Then came the OEM Windshield gasket replacement
Then came the full electrical system fix
This past Wednesday was the CDL switch/mod and a few small creature comforts

Next? Since I don't have a garage, when it's not raining on a weekend, I'll change out the spark plugs, wires, cap/rotor, and dizzy-O

On deck: Front knuckle rebuild and Birf replacement (Buying new birfs in the next week or two...birfs are PM since I'll be in there and I'll probably pick them up via @cruiseroutfit )

Maybe inbetween the cap/rotor/plugs update and the knuckle/birf rebuild I'll replace the Alternator and starter and the PCV valve (all OEM & PM)

Late summer I'm planning on pulling the carpet and putting sound dampening mats down and a new carpet due to years of water intrusion due to a full electrical problem...I'll swap out the front seats at that point also.

THEN I can move on to building :D

I like it, it only looks to be a vertical switch to me. But not bashing it by any means
👍 Yeah, it's vertical...I don't think the horizontal one is around/available anymore outside of Ebay (maybe).
It would normally bug me but, so far, I'm not giving it any side-eye.

No one riding in my cruiser but me (and maybe another 80 lover) would even notice.

Solid advice from your dad. You’ve done a lot! When are you posting the “how much is she worth” thread?

Thanks! And I have no plans to ever post that thread ;)

She'll be in my driveway until she can't drive any more, and even then, barring major body damage, I'll just rebuild the engine.

Thanks man! strong OCD here. How it was done at the ol Bimmer shop. Thats POR 15 dark grey ran out of black. Those knucks are a nightmare to clean once you go that far you may as well go all in! Definitely a more enjoyable re-assembly and an opportunity to inspect the work.Last set Black
How did you prep? Any sand blasting? My DS axle seal went so I need to go back in...you know, while I'm in there :)

Looks great man!

Upgraded the battery post terminal clamps the past w/end. I wanted a style that allows access to the cable fasteners from above. Much easier to access and with multiple fastener locations I can be flexible with the cable assignment. I'm running dual batteries and a winch, hence the big red cable running forward and an upgraded battery- to block cable.

What the clamps look like below. Metric threaded so I replaced the provided bolts with nice flanged ones. I like how they worked out.

cheers,
george.

Appreciate it, man! I knew that was the response I'd get!
I use my equipment hard, but I'm mostly into this for the camaraderie and doing clean work.
Most of my friends don't do Mud. We enjoy wrenching and driving our rigs.
@DrDuc
I wasn’t referring to you when I said "That was the response I thought I would get".

12hrs. Notice the lug nut missing? Thanks to @OffRoadScott for pointing out a couple overlooked details. The goal yesterday was to get springs and wheels on the truck and get it in the garage. Details to be addressed in the coming days. Very happy with the stance of the rig with the 1.75" Dobbies and widened FJC steelies. The usual dilemma; flares or no flares?🙄
I woke up at Friday morning feeling horrible. Vertigo and some other terrible feels. My dear friend Doublewrench @js0k, whom I consider family now, literally crushed it through a twelve-hour day in the sun with very little help from me. Woke up this morning feeling super blessed!♥️
