did you blow a trans cooler line? or is that my picture from a few weeks ago!

i replaced all those hoses, but in hindsight i believe you can cut corners and trim the offending hose and fit it back on the radiator nipple. once you clock that nipple fitting CCW a bit. that hose is discontinued by Toyota, as are most of the others.

Drove it to work.

Made the driver's window move better. Not perfect but way better.

Where's the duct tape?

Need to seal it!

It's got baling wire, screws, license plate wrapped around it (could have used a beer can).

Damn! Wrong thread, maybe move it to the Redneck thread!
You say that like I didn't try the beer cans first

Unfortunately, thin aluminum does not hold up to exhaust temperatures.

I'm thinking to seal it up, maybe add more bits of license plate and baling wire?

Where is this Redneck thread?

It's funny, I'm saying to myself that's way to much money.
But it's like $500 less than the exhaust on my lightning.

It’s a really nice exhaust system.

Cheers

parts stores carry repair sections for this task. that and a couple strong u-bolts will seal up better. i did that when someone decided they need my cat more than i did :frown:

yours is complicated by where the 2 pipes join. just run it as is for the remaining days until you can do a proper weld repair.

Did you ever figure out how to fix this issue? Mine leaks at the same spot, same side and same door. Maybe this is a common thing with these rigs?

It's scheduled to go into the shop next Monday. Until then, this will have to suffice.

I say good job. I wouldn't have even fixed it, I would have driven it broken until I got it to the shop!!!

JB weld makes an exhaust "glue" . idk if it will hold up to y pipe Temps but the stuff is like 6 bucks.

Also I'd drive that sucker as is for a while no problem. Pissing off the neighbors is one of my favorite hobbies.

What's the plan for tires?

What's the plan for tires?
I won’t go much bigger. If at all. I’m setting up as a tourer. I’m planning full air bags in the rear with a LRA tank. I have a Kaymar standard tire carrier (no bumper) as well.

Well, my dear wife was happy to get rid of me for 5 days, so packed some food, tools and gear to sleep out of the back of our 80. Makes it quick and easy to make/break camp. With the early nights (and pretty cool at 5000-6000'), it was nice inside with sleeping bag and some extra layers on top. Air mattress for the old bones. Once tucked in after enjoying a campfire each night, I could plan the next day's exploring on my digital maps and then could do some light reading prior to turning the brain off for the night :)

Just got back today in the late afternoon.

A few trip pics, fires had gone through some of the area - totally changes the landscape when you can see 'into' the forest.

This is the Trinity forest area south of hwy 36 in norcal. Saw 2 vehicles during the days exploring. One fellow with his dad exploring and another looking for his cows near one of the main roads into the area.

1st night at a spot called Red Mountain, about 6000' and actual LTE contact if you stood in the right spot. Even youtube :) Nuts!

t21_1.jpg

Exploring, lots of foresty roads to check out. From main, to less used (and required a bit of dead tree moving).

t21_2.jpg

Must have the campfire going before dark. Nice to find spots where folk had already stacked all the necessary rocks. Even a rake at this spot to clear the 10' diameter ground cover.

t21_3.jpg

Less used roads without recent tyre marks.

t21_4.jpg

Hell to Find lake - quite sad with the forest burnt away - water is full of ash debris and what use to be a pretty mountain lake with deer coming down to wash and eat some of the plants is now just a pit. Well, a chance for regrowth to occur.

t21_5.jpg

Bloody tree across the road - seriously, what are my taxes being used for?

t21_6.jpg

M12k winch did the job of 'rotating' it out of the way.

t21_7.jpg

I'm always impressed how easily the 80 suspension (well, upgraded springs & shocks of course) soaks things up and keeps tyres planted on the ground. Rarely needed 4L and only in one spot the CDL needed to be engaged as well.

t21_8.jpg

Exploring an area that was labeled Scorpion Mine. No scorpions to be seen and the mine looked more like a bunch of gravel diggings. But the track in was sufficiently unused and deteriorated further on - a 4L and CDL situation to get through some deep rocky ruts in damp soil.

t21_9.jpg

Spot called Natural Bridges. Quite an interesting place to walk through - with some very sad history (massacre of a native tribe).

t21_10.jpg

Last day and figured the 80 could pretend to be a plane - an old abandoned airstrip).

t21_11.jpg

Nice area to have a subtank for that extra fuel margin. Allows more carefree exploring.

cheers,
george.

Picked up the Christmas tree with the family.
