I have no idea. It's certainly a first for me as well. What's stranger is that I haven't touched it in a year I have no idea. It's certainly a first for me as well. What's stranger is that I haven't touched it in a year+ since replacing the alternator. And I'm fairly certain I didn't over torque it as I likely just snugged it with a small socket wrench. A real head scratcher. I think it may have been all those glorious 1fz horsepowers I was unleashing.

I'm just praying to the cruiser gods that I didn't damage the engine.

If you just snugged it up, then it was likely under-torqued which would lead to a fatigue break. If the washer was already missing, that would also lead to under-torquing.

BTW, bolts don't wear out from being removed & reinstalled to the proper torque. Proper torque only stretches the bolt to 70% of its elastic limit. so it should always return to its original shape.

I don't remember if there was a washer on the bolt when I replaced the alternator. I certainly didn't find a washer with the top half of the bolt in my driveway. Honestly, I'd be surprised if I didn't torque the bolt enough as it's only supposed to only need 15 ft.lbs. It's possible though I suppose.

Poked around the hills of SW Virginia with a friend on a little backroads wander.

What did you do with your 80 this weekend: maintenance, fix, wheel, nothing, new mod??

Me:
Checked air in tires
Change oil&filter 180,000
Fill gas tank
Waiting on box of parts from Beno

Last weekend and this weekend.
Finally wired up the lights on the roof rack.
Installed a rear camera on the roof rack.
Put grip tape on the running boards, (snow is slippery, lol).
Installed a .50 cal round where my non working antenna was.
Put in l.e.d lights in the dome lights.
Installed a dome light in the trunk area, (24 LED, red/white).
Enjoyed the snow and working on my white rabbit.

Careful with that thing. I would guess that is illegal in California, if it is not illegal I would still be worried that it would make your rig a target for extremists. I mean a gas guzzler and an abnormally large round of ammo is bound to make somebody mad.....

Haha, just kidding. Looks like a good time with all the snow. Good looking cruiser, flag, and dog.

Nicely done. How is your license plate mounted? I like it more than the way mine sits with the ARB bracket.
The plate is held by a bent stainless steel bracket. Came with the ARB bumper.
The only advantage is that the bolts are not going thru the numbers but from the top of the plate.
Here's an image from behind the license plate.
