I am wrapping up my second battery install... still needs some flex loom and a fuse relocation for the house fuse. ..And a nicer hold down. but, not bad for a first pass.

I used 0/1 welding cable with braized on lugs and 10awg for the solenoid power.

If the bolts are OEM there should also be a 10mm head on them. Try that size socket and see what happens.
Thanks, I'll climb into the bay to take a look. Gonna do a little soaking with PB as well.

I just looked at the picture and they appear to be hex bolts. I can't see them from the side of the fender. Thanks for pointing that out!

The best colored 80 is the one you own.

Other folk's opinions are just like buttholes; everyone has one and they all stink.

Enjoy your cruiser.

I don't know. I hate the dark green and own one.

Not to be the guy giving advice when not asked for any, but if I were you, I'd go ahead and replace your fusible links! They look a little old and will fail eventually.

Dude! Set your goals higher!! Dark Green is almost as bad as burgundy! (Full disclosure: I own a dark green 93...)
I know.....

I preferred a Dark Green, but this just couldn't be passed up..

The red is sooooo much better than the dark green. Neither is great but I'd take the red over the green every time. Congrats on the new truck.

Why all the hate for green and burgundy.

Is this why my green 80 was cheap? Triple locked 190,000 miles for $2800 bucks. Gonna pin stripe, dent and scratch the crap out of it with no worries anyways...

It always make me laugh when I see built 80s with a parts list from the Toyota gods that will never get used...

My truck was green when I first bought it. Definitely wasn't a fan of green but glad it wasn't burgundy. Burgundy is by far the ugliest color for a vehicle, not even just talking about 80s. Like even to this day, burgundy cars are just awful. My 3 least favorite colors for a car are burgundy, dark green and dark blue, in that order. But who am I to judge. My 80 is Monstalined in baby-sh1t green.

Are you guys kidding me? Black, Burgundy and Dark Green (in that order) are the official worst colors. Everyone knows this (yes I am trying to start a flame war.)

Any color 80-series is a good color because - it is still an 80-series. I bought my 95 in 97 with 20K miles on it. I preferred Black but Green was my second choice. I have now owned it for over 20 years.

I actually liked all of the colors the 80-series came in and would have purchased any of them. I was just looking for one in mint condition with low miles. I didn't even know what a locking differential was when I bought my 80-series which is why I have ARBs on it today.

At some point in the future I will likely cover it in bedliner as I have been wheeling it through the Texas brush every year since 1997 and it looks like someone spent all day keying my vehicle. At that point, it won't matter what color it was originally.

There is a reason why White, Burgundy (Medium Red Pearl) and Green (Dark Emerald Pearl) are the most prevalent colors for the 80 series (see the chart below):

If you click on this URL, you can then click on each color and it will bring up photos of the vehicle with the associated color. Provides a clear comparison of every choice.

How much fuel did you use per rig and for how long? I was in the area last month and only having one Jerry can kept me away based on what the maps looked like.

I brought two 5 gallon cans, they were plenty. Filled up in Hanksville and had more than enough to go all the way to dollhouse then out the same way. I suggest nicer cans, I had one nice racing fuel can which held up just fine to the heat and jarring, the other red crap plastic one bulged and the plastic seam tore at the top. Had to wrap it up quite a bit so I wouldnt smell it while driving.

Advance the timing and added premium gas, going to pick a 12ft uhaul trailer today so wish luck. I hope I can make it over the grape vine with the trailer full without getting ran over by giant trucks.

Where you moving to?

I'm sorry I disagree don't get me wrong I like other colors more then black but I have grown quite fond of my black 80 over time... I just don't think it is one of the worst looking colors on an 80. It can look good clean and dirty with the right camera angle :flipoff2:

Both of mine are 4K1, and if I ever had paint done, I'd probably get them redone identically. Burgundy is like a Cadillac DTS color...screams retirement home. :D

Well crap, I went through my parts drawer and found that I have everything I need to service the rear axle. I was hoping to have an excuse to postpone digging into this in this heat.

I have two 4K1 80s. Best color of an 80. I wish my dark green was 4K1 too!
