I figured out what to do with the seat belt receiver. The driver's seat had some plug running to it. I'm assuming it is the annoying ding thing if you aren't buckled or something. Didn't need it so I cut it.

I built a bracket out of 1/8" steel. A simple L with a straight piece angled forward. I used a grade 8 bolt at the pivot but ended up welding the two pieces together. I kept the bolt in because this was the first time I've ever welded...

I attached the buckle using the same bolt that Mr T used to attach it to 93-97 seats. Interestingly, it is a 7/16"-20 pitch thread. I checked and doubled checked this. Weird. I can only assume that this is some US safety regulation that they use SAE instead of metric. I don't know.

I think this will be plenty strong and it exceeds Federal Law for seat belt restraint systems. Plus, it's a 24 year old vehicle with 340k miles. I'm guessing this is fairly down in the list for possible safety issues in a wreck. :rofl:

The problem with both red and green is they don't look so great in worn out fashion, which most are. I would take a red 97 CE or green 97 40th in perfect shape any day. When paint and trim get crappy they look bad no matter the color imho.

It apparently is some kind of standard. And, it affords some interesting options. Like the ability to install an eyelet bolt into the 3rd row upper anchors to hang things on.. things that exert a lot of force. Like a hammock, even.

Removed these four nuts to replace my oxygen sensors. 120K miles turned these things to complete misery. This is on a lifelong CA truck with zero rust. I have a newfound respect for all those working on their Cruisers in the rust belt! Had to use penetrating fluid, a torch, damaged nut removers, hammered on sockets, a Dremel, and a liberal use of profanity. I think profanity is what finally broke them loose!

Finally got around to installing my Prinsu rack and the CVT awning that I won on Instagram back at Christmas! haha... They are both top notch additions and everything went very smooth on the installation.

I had to run to the hardware store and grab some bolts and when I came back out this guy had parked next to me. I was in awe, I had seen this FJ40 a few times in town but never was able to track the guy down. I HAD to take a photo. (Notice the Plates on both of our rigs)

Where'd you get the leather? Looks good.

Thanks they were a gift from Lseat.com. They are the "value" option right now. I understand LC Heaven's leather (landcruiserheaven.com) is of a higher quality. In the end I'm satisfied with the Lseat leather as "good enough". However, if I had it to do over I'd probably buy Frank's kit to support a MUD guy and definitely pay someone else to install them. One banana job but a PITA and not worth the time IMHO.

I hate greasing my u-joints. No matter what I do I can't get one of the zircs to line up without dropping the shaft. I recall someone recommending a 3oz gun with a needle making it easier.

It is a winner. It is so much easier and cleaner. I still will have to drop the shaft one more time as one of the joints on the difficult one didnt ooze, but it shouldn't be a problem in the future with more regular greasing.

I grease mine every 1000 miles :redface: I have used the needle grease gun set up pictured below for years with ease.

I've been using a basic cheapo grease gun with a hard swivel tip (45° increments), not a flexible line, with absolutely no trouble whatsoever. Are you guys running extreme lifts with crazy driveline angles or something, making zerk access more difficult? Just wondering as it seems like all 4 u-joints and both slip yokes are easy peasy on my rig.
 
I've been using a basic cheapo grease gun with a hard swivel tip (45° increments), not a flexible line, with absolutely no trouble whatsoever. Needle set up will give you much more access than any over the zerk tip with a larger range of driveline position. Needle set up can also be used to add grease to factory tie rod ends as a bonus.

Looks like your PO made it tough for you! Those are LOCK NUTS! They're not supposed to be!

The nuts on mine oxidized away and I replaced them with zinc plated steel nuts (the studs are stainless) so they could continue to disappear. I also used plenty of copper anti-seize.
