The 30 day LS swap is coming along pretty well

I am doing an fzj80 frame on a 60 body with an LM7, drive by cable with 4l60e 80 transfer case, 80 locked axles. Have some Qs on engine placement.

1) Keeping transmission mount in factory location and welding on extension to it as needed. Does this keep the engine at the firewall?

2) What radiator are you running?

3) i have a truck intake, would like to use the intake you show. Any performance issues with doing that?

4) Is there enough clearance on a 80 frame to remove the AC compressor? I am thinking of using a compressor relocation kit and it looks like it may still allow me to keep space for a dual battery set up. Thoughts? Kind of like attached pics.

Drivetrain specs? Don't think I've seen this one yet.

This ones a gen3 6.0 with a cam, LS6 intake, and holley mid mount accessory drive basically. Its got a NV4500 and split case. So far its been way easier than the 4l60e in mine haha

1. If you use the stock location for the trans mount on the 4l60e and then place your motor that way its going to put your motor pretty far forward in your engine bay, generally the 4l60e adds significant length vs the stock 4speed... however since youre using an 80 series frame you might be good since the 80 series trans is longer than the 4speed too. You might be able to get away with it if you used electric fans but it would be really far forward. To keep the motor back at the firewall, youd want to set your motor placement fist then figure out the trans mount after. It will be a bit back. Keep in mind, you want the motor offset to the Driver side as much as you can get it, at least like an inch or two, and you want around 2 degrees of tilt on the motor. The more you offset the motor to the Driver side, the more room youll have for your front driveshaft and exhaust. I think the land cruiser shop might have some fj80 swap motor mounts you could use. At least for the 80 series, it uses all the factory mounting locations and bolts. Its totally bolt on. Id definitley call them before ordering on that one.

2. We send CAD files to a local shop for radiators for them to build them. The shop we use is Four Seasons Radiator mostly because its local to us and we can just go pick them up. Ron davis also has swap radiators as well. At four seasons expect 650ish for the custom rad and 500-600 for the electric fan and shroud or so. You could call them up and ask for a fj60 radiator and theyll have the specs on it, but they might refer you to one of their resellers and youll have to pay that shops drop shipping mark up on it. Would be better to avoid that and just have a shop make/recreate one for you. Ron davis is a little higher. Really any custom radiator shop can make a radiator for these things though. You can either make a 3d drawing with all measurements like we do, or just drop them off your old radiator and have them copy it. Many people go with that route, that way youre not really designing anything.... they are. If you do draw your own out, its really not hard and you can do it with paper and pencil. Just get the height depth Mounting hole diameters, hole centers on the brackets and distance of brackets from top and bottom and left and right etc. You can use the stock rad. youll just need a much longer upper rad hose and a custom shroud

3. Based on your picture im assuming you have a gen3 motor? If that is the case, you can use a LS1, LS2, or LS6 intake... but since you are drive by cable it necks you down to just the LS1 or aftermarket like holley or fastlsx. The truck intake actually flows a little better down low but kind of falls off when you rev the motor if you are looking at it on a dynograph. The LS6 intake flows better than the LS1, and makes more top end power at the expense of some torque but its pretty small numbers, think +- 10-20 hp either way. The LS1 intake makes better torque than the ls6 at the expense of top end. You wont be able to use the LS2 or LS6 intake because they are Drive by wire only. You will gain signifigant room in your engine bay with going with the car intake.

A couple things to keep in mind switching from the truck intake to the car intake...

-youll want to change your accessory drive to fit your throttle body since the car intake sits lower. You can use a stock LS1 Camaro accessory drive, or an aftermarket accessory drive like the one from holley ($$$$). The main difference between the car and truck accessories is the distance from the block they sit, the car stuff sits closer than the truck stuff, so if you use all camaro accessories youll need a new harmonic balancer. There are kits from places like lsx innovations and ict billet that will let you use truck spacing to keep your harmonic balancer and just rearranges the alternator and PS Pump. What you are trying to acheive here is the ability to use the Car waterpump which is lower and has the neck out of the way of the TB and also a different bracket on the top driver side of the motor. The truck bracket interferes with the tb on the car intake.

- Youll need to redo your PCV and steam ports. Thats pretty easy to do though by using the LS6 valley cover with the PCV under the intake. Youll run the pcv line from the valley cover to the TB then from one of your valve covers to your intake tube. The Seam port crossover on the front will just need to be modified to fit under your TB.

- Youll need a different fuel rail and different injectors. Theres a site that sells used ls1 intakes with fuel rails and injectors as a kit. If you got that kit youd need to flip the fuel rail backwards, and put a 3/8 quick connect to -6AN adapter and then run your fuel supply to that -6 fitting on the fuel rail. Youd need to run a returnless fuel system with the corvette fuel pressure regulator that has the return going back to the fuel tank from the regulator and only the supply going up to the motor. The stock Truck fuel rail has the regulator up on the fuel rail and a supply and return line on it. The cars dont. Youll also need a fuel injector subharness to go iwth the car injectors.

4. I am unsure on the 80 frame. If the 60 body fits on the frame id assume its pretty similar width in the front but i dont really ever mess with 80 series that much. I do know that that ICT Billet/Dirty Dingo AC relocation kit sets the compressor way out from the block. Youll definitely lose space with it. The stock AC mount sits pretty tight into the frame. If it were me, id try it stock first. On my FJ60 and the one were doing now they both run dual batteries and a hodgepodge fj62/fzj80 airbox and the stock mount AC compressor fit just fine. Having the AC compressor up high like that also makes you run your hoses up above it and its super ugly imo. I try and hide as much of that stuff as possible.

My personal truck is dbw and i am swapping over to the ls6 intake at some point, ive got one sitting in my garage, but its solely for looks. Dont expect any huge power gains from just the intake alone. Intake, cam, valve springs, pushrods, and tune together will get you the power increases you are looking for, intake alone wont do it.

First went inland to have a picnic - but then decided to go back to shore as the weather was better there. Enjoyed Prosecco and cake. Then cut some firewood on a friends farm next day. I love this versatile vehicle !

For some reason when I read this I was thinking prosciutto and cake…. Pics look better then my imagination.

Pics look awesome! I’ve been to New Zealand once but not for near long enough. Hope to get back with time to explore one day.

Thanks Skreddy,

make sure to drop a line before your visit so we can enjoy a beer together...maybe even with prosciutto then.

What type tree is that? It looks like a sequoia tree if it were not for the low laying branches....
Beautiful scenery...!!!

I believe that it is a redwood tree - and the botanical name is Sequoioideae. Here you go you were dead right.
They were introduced in the early 20th century to New Zealand.

Might be cheating as this is indirectly for my 62 and took last few weekends. But turned my garage from this:

To this (though Home Depot mufffed my new Tool Chest delivery today so will get my new 56" next week now. All the black crates are temporary till I fill cabinets back up):

And ready to go back inside after a week in the driveway.

dear god that's dreamy!

Pulled the head on my ‘85 yesterday, but it “happened” over the weekend, so it somewhat applies. Blew a head gasket on I-40 coming back from GSMTR.

@ceylonfj40nut yeah it was rough.

Truck was running hot pulling a steep grade coming out of the hills of East TN, and when I pulled over, fan belt pulley was loose as a goose.

Fixed that in 5 minutes, and got back on the road, back to normal operating temps in about 5 minutes. But, 10 miles later, HG blew and it was over.

Near overheat could have certainly caused it, but after pulling the head, gasket looked rough between #1-2 and #5-6.

At least it didn't happen on the trail!

Lucky not on the trail indeed!!!! Check for warpage before it all goes back together!
