@TexFJ yea the inverter will mostly be used for tailgating to power a little TV and some speakers. I haven’t setup the blue sea fuse panel or inverter yet, but the plan is to mount it somewhere in the rear quarter panel. Will probably need some sort of mounting bracket. No plans for a bigger Alt as of now, the duralast I have in there now puts out 80A and should be fine as long as I don’t drain both batteries (I’m no expert on this though if anyone has opinions)

@88Retired62 i used this voltmeter, I had to file down the sides of the switch opening a little to get it fit but then it clipped right in perfectly

Not my 60 this time but i thought this was pretty impressive. My dad asked me to look at his 03 Jetta tdi for some excessive road noise and low power. I figured out the noise was a bad wheel bearing. I pulled the intake apart and found the throttle response problem

This is the second time in 150k miles it’s plugged up. Basically because the car gets used for a lot of short trips the EGR is constantly costing the intake with carbon and oil and eventually this happens.

Also pulled the intake off for a thorough cleaning

My lord...

So I've been reading through this thread over in the 80 section and it's nice to see all the cool things that people have done to, and with their 80's. I did a search, but didn't find one in the 60 section, so I thought I would start one. If one already exists, I appologize!

So, what did you do with your 60 this weekend?

Me?

-Fixed the Tail light and fuel gauge wiring issues.
-greased the front driveshaft
-topped up the PS, coolant, brake and clutch reservoirs
-found the coolant leak, replaced a bad hose clamp.
-filled my veggie tank so I'm ready for the week!

Most pictures of this would be pretty boring, so instead I'll include one from a few weekends ago, when I spent about an hour and a half chipping 1/2" of ice off my truck. (We had pretty bad freezing rain)! Yes, that's a rock chipping hammer...

Now that’s a great shot!

I have two boys (15 and 17) who are cruiserheads. They are getting second nature on manual transmission driving. Driving it daily at an abandoned parking lot and doing hill starts. Next will be some wheeling. Not ready yet for black bear pass. Not sure I am🤣.

Price for use of vehicle, wash it.

Cleaned up the front frame and kicked off the axle overhaul

@mattressking is that a Luft poster? Aircooled and LCs are two expensive garage mates.

Good eye, yea that was last years poster. Major mistake was parting with the 72 911 I had years ago...could've made a killing if I held onto it when inflation kicked in on them. Learned my lesson, not letting my cruiser slip through my fingers this time.

I bought it, fixed the carb, pulled the dead PS pump, and ordered the saginaw replacement. Racing to get it together in time for Fall wheeling. The avatar rig will do until then.

so once they get good enough starting off in it, are you gonna make them swap out the clutch?

What's your secret to cleaning up the frame and what paint are you using?

Fortunately I was blessed with a clean frame to start with. This Cruiser is a JDM import from @SteveJackson at Land Cruisers Direct and has fairly low miles. The exterior paint is quite patina'd from sitting in the sun but the frame and body are nearly completely rust free.

I still do a fair bit of prep work. I start with a wire brush to knock down loose stuff. I move to a wire brush on a 4" grinder and work it around really well. I get hard to reach spots with a die grinder and a scothbrite pad. From there it's clean up, first with brake cleaner and then wax/grease remover paint prep. I'm painting with Rustoleum heavy duty or Steel-It poly paint.
