I finally completed my gutter resealing project (I blame
@PatrickM for his thread). The cruiser has a couple water intrusion issues and the gutter sealer was old and cracked so that was the main target. I waited until we had a warm day in Seattle. It ended up being a little too warm....
Here are the supplies:
Lots of prep. The removal of the seam sealer took the longest! Most of the gutters were cleaned out with a wire brush, dremel wire brush, and a 1/4" wood chisel. The A-pillars were the hardest as the working space was really narrow. A combination of the wood chisel and a dental pick did the trick. After all the seam sealer was removed, lots of sanding, then degreaser, then a tack cloth, then 2K epoxy primer (Make sure you have the appropriate respirator).
Following the epoxy primer I used 3M Control Flow seam sealer for the gutters. You will need about 300mL of seam sealer for your gutters, which equated to 1.5 tubes. This stuff was great but dried SUPER fast! The warm day did not help at all. It spreads nicely but you have to work fast to get it the way you want (I used an acid brush). Needless to say, as a beginner, this stuff was a challenge but it all came out ok in the end. These gutters definitely will not leak for a long time!

After painting:
The paint from automotivetouchup was great. High quality stuff. Yes, you can see a new paint line where I resealed the gutters but that is fine by me. The plan is to get the cruiser painted in the next couple of years, but the gutters needed attention now, so its mainly a stop gap. Being in Seattle, its not a good idea to wait to address any water intrusion issues. This cruiser is part of the family and we need it to stick around for a long time to come. Now the gutters are fresh, sealed and ready for a sweet new roof rack from
@reevesci
Speaking of roof racks, I removed the playschool dealership installed one that was just screwed into the sheet metal roof

. I ground out the surface rust and painted the roof around the holes. The holes will be plugged with little rubber plugs and urethane sealer (3M 5200) until I can find someone weld them shut.
