Good advice. Thanks. It's not gonna be a quick job as i hoped. There actually is some play in it. Hmmyou could pop the relay rod end off the pitman and disconnect the steering damper from it and it should be much easier to work with
pblaster plus adjustable wrench using the steerin damper tab should provide sufficient leverage.
If you have a lot of play in that relay rod end you could use it as an excuse to replace it....its one of the steering ends that is under most stress
loosen the clamps and stick a screw driver into the slots and pry (nicely) to loosen the threads, pry both ways on both slotsTried to allign the steering wheel. Shaft covered in sticky undercoat. Pipe wrench on, didnt move an inch. Might try again with heat. Any other hacks?

Those steering shafts can be a bugger to get unstuck. When I replaced my tie rod ends I took the whole rod out, put it in a vise, got it nice and hot with an oxygen-acetylene torch and used a large pipe wrench to get the tie rod ends out. When reassembling I made sure to use a thin coat of anti-seize on the threads.Tried to allign the steering wheel. Shaft covered in sticky undercoat. Pipe wrench on, didnt move an inch. Might try again with heat. Any other hacks?

Use kerosene as the solvent. Scrub it with a sturdy plastic scrub brush. I’d use a quart container to hold the kerosene, dip the brush in it and hold the container under where you are scrubbing to catch the runoff. Put some cardboard underneath to catch what the container misses. It’ll be messy and it will work.Tried to allign the steering wheel. Shaft covered in sticky undercoat. Just buy entirely new rods from partsouq. Shipped in less than a week and was less than 300 bucks if I remember correctly.Those steering shafts can be a bugger to get unstuck. Installed some new quarter windows with new frames, weatherstripping.

Just went over Roger's Pass in the Canadian Rocky mountains and didn't overheat. I'd call that a win! I even had the air conditioning running most of the time. I won't say it was fast but it was effective... The 1hz loves elevation.![]()

This is my cruiser-related nightmare, someone else having to use it and damaging it. My dad walked into my side mirror and luckily didn't break it but moved it, and it took a solid 20 mins for my heart-rate to drop back to normalTook it in for state inspection which I hate doing because someone else has to drive it that I don't know. It passed but it did not go well because 1) the idiot left the hood not closed all the way and 2) cracked the "bonnet" protector while opening the hood. Luckily I caught the hood not being closed all the way before I left which is how I caught the crack in the bonnet protector. I just decided to let it go and leave but I never seem to have much luck getting state inspections. I wish the VIN was not in the engine bay so they can grab it elsewhere.
I think state inspections are going away in the state of Texas which I can not wait for!

thanks for the advice. I will look into it once i get a little more time on my hands! For now i just wanted a quick fix since the unalligned steering wheel annoys me. But i will replace those rods. Whats a good indicator that the damper needs replaced? Do I go stock on that one or can you recommend any aftermarket like ARB?Hello,
This is a good excuse to replace tie rod ends and rods. They are not that expensive and the result is great.
Throw in a new steering damper if you can.
As mentioned above, anti-seize grease is your friend.
After the change, do yourself a favor and use skinny (less than 10.5 in. / 285 mm wide) tires.
