Rebuilt the knuckles, replaced wheel bearings, and all that fun stuff for my first time ever. Took me a bit of time, but then again it was my first time. I gave the neighbors a fun yard decoration for a week haha. Now I feel a lot more confident about doing these jobs in the future which will be very helpful since our Prado, 55, and possibly 40 all need wheel bearings replaced as well...

Oh trust me... those were only a FRACTION of the ones I went through, hahaha. Probably 4-5 whole roles were consumed.

Installed braided brake lines and flushed the brake system.

Also, hurt something. Sounds like I've got metal floating around the bottom of the belhousing. I'm making a fair amount of power but I'm struggling to think of what it could be. Not affecting the way it drives or feels, just super annoying.

Didn’t have any aspirations to bang my truck on rocks so found a few dirt roads to eat dust on.

After a couple hours of this, figured I had enough and found a more serene campsite

The dog was well exercised

I think there where 6 or 7 70 series in total and we had light duty 70, heavy duty 70,73 and 75 present

I have been having starting issues for a while. Finally had the starter rebuilt.

What a pain to remove and re-install. 2 bolts and 2 wires and it was the most frustration starter job I have ever done. Not difficult just, no room, can't see and it seemed the top bolt would only turn 5 degrees per try. Took forever to remove that 1 bolt.

Anyway, it is done and the truck starts like a dream.

Thank you so much @Onur for the expert's look into my KZJ78! Great to have you in the neighborhood and loving the new all-weather mats. Will post photos soon.

And that ECT is staying pushed down. The drive home was excellent. Much improved shift points.

My 77 has a leather shift knob that is kinda showing age so I decided to try new one from Toyota. Not an exact match but it sure feels a lot better.

I had mine apart to put the locker in the front end and the grease and all looked really good. I did notice there are NPT plugs 3/8" approx. in the top of the knuckles. I'm thinking about putting grease fittings on these so I can pump them full of clean grease with a grease gun maybe once a year, or after a extreme 4wheeling session. Did you see these on yours?

I would recommend against grease fittings as then it would be possible to pressurize the cavity and blow out your inner axle seal. FWIW those aren't NPT but some British thread norm (IIRC). Just unscrew them once a year or so and squirt a bit of grease in there.

Thanks for that warning, did not think of that. Plenty of nice clean grease is a good thing.
