Well, I just got back from 6 months in Japan for work. Since I took no pre-emptive measures before I left, I had dead batteries :( I figured it was time to replace the JDM batteries anyway...

On the plus side, I had this waiting for me:

Easy install as previously documented here. Great mod!

And the new batteries from CostCo where well deserved!

I have been working on a CAD dwg file to get my rear panels cut locally of ABS. Seems like it is harder to find someone locally than it was to make the drawing.

That’s great. Let me know if you find somebody, I’m planing on doing this as well but on HPDE or similar material ( light brown, tan or sand). It turns out there are no many options on those colors.

I will let you know. I am talking to three different local companies about cutting them for me using my drawing file and supplied materials but response was slow. Probably because everyone is focused on the holiday weekend.

Replaced most of my vacuum piping in the hopes it would fix my shut down issue. No luck. Engine still won't stop. Time to pull out the FSM and trouble shoot

Oh, and found this nice modification to my frame today... Front most cross-member tube on the frame. No idea how it broke.

Damn rusty Japanese trucks.... older it gets, the more rust and bondo I find. Par for the course unfortunately.

Sweet! TOPLESS! love it. That thing must really fly without all that heavy canvas!:p

I was looking at that frame tube on my rig a few minutes ago....at least it looks accessable for welding in a pipe or something. Good to see you the other day - I got my BJ74 up to 80 MPH on my way home!!!

Meanwhile here in Vermont I put in my 24 volt comeup winch and started to hunt for a solution to my 13BT won't shut off problem...Through threads on mud at least I found that my injection pump has a fuel shut off lever I can manually actuate in the meantime....

I found someone local that can make the cuts using the DWG file but it isn't cheap. He did confirm that the file is perfect for making the cuts.

In the end, I will probably go back to vinyl. I am finding it expensive, time consuming and not worth it to try to get the whole cruiser to match up the front ABS cards I got.

Just for fun, the front cards were drawn up in a DWG file as well. Black lines are the cuts...the rest is optional engraving.

I’m curious if you looked at the CAD file that’s floating around from “Troopcarriers of Australia”? I managed to download that off Facebook I think. It’s a solid cad file.

If you did look at it is there a reason you went your own way?

Yeah because for some reason the ABS front door cards I got from Australia has extra holes in it that doesn't work with my doors. Just something to be aware of....

They are a solid company with a solid product but unfortunately too far away to work with to get the product suited to my own cruiser, plus they don't make any of the rear cargo panels.

I used my own cards to make the CAD files I posted snapshots of.

Damn! I have supported the entire front of the vehicle off that cross member. It must have taken a lot of salt to do that.

Cheers

I don't own a 70 yet, but I've been following this build on YouTube and its been entertaining. Its good to watch his Surf videos first to get an understanding of his point of view on what you think you need vs what you actually need to travel.

What wheel is that and it fits on a 75 without spacers? are those the tundra spares?

Tundra, Tacoma, Sequoia....steel spare. No idea on a 75.....I have 80 axles on an 80 frame with a 70 body. I would guess 1" spacers to make them work on a 70.
