Purchased a set of the Polk Audio DB402.
They are waterproof and resistant to harsh outdoor conditions.
Reports are they have good quality sound and will fit inside the dashboard location.

During the last stay in the PI I looked at what is required to access the 4" speakers mounted inside the lower dash.
The metal sides of the lower dash need to be removed; I found several screws, but I probably missed a couple.
The metal side covers will not budge.
For those members that have replaced the speakers; did you remove the metal side covers or is there another way to access the speakers.
If you removed the metals side covers; how many screws were there and where were they located ?

The only way I know of is by removing the trim pieces around the instrument cluster, like the air vent pieces and such.

Had to literally cut out the old diff breather, couldn’t undo the brake lines, ceased and stubborn to get off, so I replaced the diff breather/brake line splitter.
Luckily I had a spare sitting on diff of the donor cruiser.

Cleanup work. Fan blade fun. Putting in a little cleanup time for something you will never see behind the shroud.

I think I'm just in one of the 5 stages of cruiser grief.

Bargaining - If I clean this fan blade, please make sure there are no more gotchas from the machine shop!!!

the 5 stages of cruiser grief:

Denial: I don't need to worry about this, it's a cruiser, it will run forever!
Anger: WHY DID I BUY THIS!!! PARTS NO LONGER AVAILABLE!!! I"M SELLING!:censor:
Bargaining: If I clean this fan blade, please make sure there are no more gotchas from the machine shop!!! :bounce:
Depression: looks back a first "build" date post on mud, and figures only 2 more years and $20K left to finish. :(
Acceptance: Puts it in the back of garage tarp covered and searches craigslist with renewed enthusiasm for a project someone else gave up thats only needs a few things to be finished.

I know that exact feeling
I cleaned many parts that aren’t seen at all, including the fan blade...why oh why

On one hand, it's so much fun to drive a 70-series in the snow without all those new-fangled traction control electronics!

On the other hand, I cringe and think IT'S RUSTING!!!

This is not a for sale/wanted parts section. Please post in the Classifieds section of MUD.

I am not looking to buy or sell! I am asking if any has done the upgrade with spacers

It's still not the place for that question. This is a "what did you do with your 70 series" thread.

Please start a new technical thread asking that question.

Finally covered up the heater control panel hole (55539-32010-CO) that has been a subtle OCD annoyance since I got my 74.

Overkill vs Massive Overkill ......

What I assume are factory springs (foreground) with 4 overload springs vs new Terrain Tamer springs (background) with 2 overload springs.
Both seem to be more than adequate. :)

The smaller spring-pack will be fine. Especially in view of how much lighter your now billfold is.
