When you find a 13mm head bolt on the Japanese truck you are working on.... the worst travesty on any Land Cruiser...

I've got a fair number of 13mm bolts on mine, that seems like VW's favorite size.

Hello,

A 13 mm head bolt is enough reason to curse the PO and all his/her descendants in my book.

Same for 11 mm bolts.

Save for emergency repairs, both sizes do not belong in a Land Cruiser.

Emergency repairs are no excuse. I keep a few pieces of JDM hardware from @davework in my little spares bag.

No excuse.

I gave the 74 some much needed attention today. I started with replacing the door trim with ameriseal, what a difference it makes (still not waterproof). Thanks @Bogan! Then I hit the mountain for a couple hours exploring some new offshoots. After getting back I added some L-tracks to the back of the truck and cut out all the interior panel cards and made a map shelf. Also found the original tire chock and a chipped benchmade knife!

What is that aluminum "rail" above your wood access panels? It almost looks like some sort of rail for attaching M-Lok accessories or something. I have been considering making some MOLLE panels that allow attachment of various pouches and kit at different points inside my vehicle, but that rail you have looks like it may be something better.

How did you mount the wood? Also, can I pick your brain? I am looking to mount an ARB twin compressor and trying to figure out the best place for it behind the rear sides or maybe even the larger rear door. Thoughts?

And also, what kind of plywood are you cutting your panel cards from. Looks great! Love the scenery...

That is aircraft cargo track (L-track Tie Down | L track System | Logistic Track & Straps (uscargocontrol.com)). Its great for tie downs and mounting points. Super adjustable. I've put it in both my Tacomas. You have to drill into whatever you are putting it in, but worth the sacrifice .

It’s called an l-track, it’s the same tie down system that are used in aircrafts I believe!

I’m still trying to figure out a permanent solution to mounting the wood panels. I’m looking at using either Zeus Tabs or some generic form of car clips.
As far as the twin compressor goes I’m not completely sure there’s enough room. Ill have to look its dimensions.

I've put 6mm cage nuts in the holes of the metal and then secured my panels with 6mm flush hardware. Super stout. I've got a single ARB mounted inside my panel and a twin would fit as well. Do you guys have less room in the 73's?

so being short on time and the kids sucking me dry of any pocket change for any new parts I hacked a "sharkfin aerial" onto the roof rack due to having absolutely the worst FM reception since I have owned the landcruiser, its 12v boosted, came off a suzuki swift wreck I have sitting on the property , it works so good, especially drowning out the kids now!
Oh and the rope around the front roof rack stops all the wind noise- old wives tale that actually works a treat as well

It appears super tight for the dual, especially because the air comes out the side....

Seeing all these snow pictures kinda makes me want to have a few days of driving in the snow, only a few days. I am so far down South Texas that it never snows....even now when most of Texas is getting snow. I did have "flurries" for like 5 seconds last night and they melted as soon they hit the ground.

I made them out of wood as well and tried adehisive velcro. It's too hard to remove and eventually the adhesive doesn't stick well to the steel. (I wanted to have them removable for storage in the body panel. Don't go that route.
