I just put an external coolant heater in mine this week. Started right up this a.m., no glow plugs, no smoke and idled smooth.

Now I just need to get a wifi outlet or programmable timer, so I can set it to turn on a couple hours before I leave in the a.m.
is this a system you have to plug in? my problem was that when i go skiing...truck sits for 8-10 hours in sub freezing temps...and i can’t plug into the ski lodge. i preset the Eberspächer to kick on for ten minutes...then roll out...no black smoke. the plug in systems are great if you have something to plug into...that’s my problem.

Yes, I have to plug in, and I have the same problem at my local ski-hill. I was skulking around the lodge yesterday looking for an outlet, found one, but I'd have to run the cord across a cat track to plug in...there used to be a spot in one of the lots with a power pole and an outlet, but they added a stupid 'mountain coaster' a few years ago and got rid of it.

This was $70. I'd like a Webasto or Ebersparcher, but bought a new split board and bindings instead...messed up priorities I guess.

Where did they tap into your fuel system?

i’ll have to look...somewhere in the engine compartment...maybe with a diff fuel filter

We've been hunkering down and hadn't camped since September but this weekend we got out to a canyon in the Chihuahuan Desert and it was perfect. Finally used the Shadow Awning (kinda pointless in the winter) and it did so well in the 30+ MPH winds at night. Didn't have it guy lined at all. It also prompted me to buy a Webasto water heater because cold starts while camping are roughhhhhh.

Those are great. I found them useless when camping though since it would take a massive 12v system to power the heater via an inverter. Broke down and bought a Webasto coolant heater. 15 min warm up times, here I come!

This past weekend we did some exploring of the Saddle Mountain area west of Phoenix... rock-hounding for agates, picnic lunch, scoping camping spots, shot the .22 rifle a bit... beautiful locale and close!

What kind of agate is out there? Love me some pigeon blood!

I agree

whoops...i agree...i need an option that doesn’t require a plug in. we ski a lot and i can’t exactly run an extension cord to the lodge. after two weekends of not being able to start my 2L-TE without a hair dryer and a jump start...i got the eberspächer. it’s expensive when you don’t need it and super cheap when you do!

i actually set the preset options to start in the morning and evening before and after work. no black smoke and my truck blows warm air now when i leave the house...i might be getting too yuppy for my 70 series!

one nice thing is that i now just leave the idle control knob in the same position around 700-900 rpms at all times instead of starting it and adjusting

Found an old photograph of my previously owned 74 Series.

Found this photo online of some people overseas testing out the advanced road handling characteristics of the 70 series. Of note in the picture is the stiff chassis and suspension. Total trust in the vehicle by all involved???? Perhaps this vehicle soon available at auction from Dubai.

Man... I just looked up pigeon blood agate. Very cool!

We have fire agates here in AZ and spent some time looking for them. We didn't find any of the finer specimens but this was, honestly, our first time doing focused rockhounding. And we were in a BLM area sanctioned for rock hounding.

We found lots like this...

And a few that qualify as fire agate... with orange/red hues woven into them.

Our children are always bringing home pocketfuls of rocks when we go hiking or camping. So this year for Christmas when we discussed getting them something besides the latest plastic toy or video game, we got them gifts to facilitate more hiking and camping. Our youngest boy got a rock hammer and all the kids got a joint gift of a rock tumbler. So we are tumbling our agates now to see how they turn out... and already talking about how to hunt better on the next trip.
