OK, it was Trollhole's Big Gay 2F thread on the valve cover.

On the powder coat/high temp. Last I read you were using an oven to cure out the PC............so what's that like 500* max? So does the PC finish curing when you fire the motor? Just curious....:)

Ed

The powder I used on the 302 headers was baked at 550 the max my home oven would reach. The powder spec said anything over 500 would allow it to cure properly and would survive temps to 1100 degrees after it cured. I have read that you can make the coating last longer by mounting them and over a period of 30 minutes run the engine and for the first 5 minutes gradually increase the RPM (and temp of course) until max temp is reached then hold that RPM for 25 minutes then shut down and let them totally cool off. We did not do that with the 302 headers and like I said they are slightly discolored right at the head but otherwise look great.

The Downey headers will not fit my oven but I have a friend in Ohio who powder coats and has a large oven that will reach 650 degrees. Should make them look great. ;)

Taking all this powder coating, paint, mickey mouse headers and valve cover additions into the equation, So how much added weight are we talking about here?

I calculated that the weight would increase .0018 lbs from the powder coat and paint but would increase my bragging rights by a factor of 22.18X.

Oh , I would also decrease drag coeffienct of the engine block by 17% allowing the block to go a LOT faster!

My movable display stand......::
SD801001 (Custom).webp

Harbor Freight special stand and easily got all 4 bolts in AND used all four arms! :D

Get one with a "U" shape to the legs, the "T" shaped ones make handling a F/2F a little scarey:eek:
Mine is rated 1250# but has the "U" shaped legs.

Today I graduated from the HF orange stand in Coolerman's post to the HF red stand that is similar to the one in Degenol's post. Instead of a U, it has 2 legs than angle out from the spindle end of the stand kind of like a V.

The whole time my 2F was attached to the HF orange 1000lb stand I still had it attached to my cherry picker in case it fell over. I never felt comfortable with it.

Now with the 2000lb V shaped stand, it is MUCH more sturdy. I removed the cherry picker and feel comfortalble with my kids in the shop.

From someone who has had both, I would not recommend the cheapest HF orange stand.

You guys have way too much spare room in your garages . I can only dream of having that kind of working space. Hey Grant, do all of those engines in your garage work???? Can I borrow one? :grinpimp:

Nice chain...

geez check out those shiny extractors

How do you like the MAF tuned headers?

My MAF tuned headers have been installed for over 5 years and I like them. Have only had one issue - the two bolts that mate each ball joint type of connector tend to loosen up over time due to thermal cycling. I have to tighten them at least once a year. I would not use any other header I see for sale by Downey, MAF or SOR.
