Just completed an A/C compressor and dryer repair (swapped out) on Malleus the Younger's 80. A couple of notes (pics later): the dryer is A LOT easier to remove with the bumper OFF. Charlie insisted on doing it the hard way, with the bumper on. If you choose this (not recommended) method, you can access the top of the dryer by removing the turn signal. The bolts holding the hardlines on the dryer are really little and break easily; don't over torque them. PM Charlie and he'll let you know how he knows.

Also, the little screw holding the clutch on isn't really tight (or shouldn't be). I was able to remove it by holding the pressure plate with a strap wrench and spinning the head with an air impact. Came right off.

Look really close at the engagement of both snap rings holding the pulley and stator onto the shaft. It's easy to get them almost in the groove and think you're done, when you're not.

Pro tip: the pump has oil in it; it should always face up (as installed) with the cover off. Unless you want to bathe in compressor oil. And then try to find out how much oil a compressor needs (good luck with that).

Parts you need:
(2) each O-rings for hardlines to the dryer 90099-14119
(1) each O-ring for hardline to the HP side of the compressor 90099-14121
(1) each O-ring for hardline to the LP side of the compressor 90099-14120

The compressor O-rings are in the box with the reman pump; don't forget to look for them. The dryer O-rings are on you; for some reason thy are not included with the dryer (they're listed on the hardlines).

Tip of the hat to @Roxx for the pro tip to replace the dryer with the pump.
All in all, a  job, for a cool afternoon in the shade.

Started lifting a friends GX470 last night. Only brought it over to look at the rear brakes, next thing I know we’re in the process of installing the lift LOL. Removed the old airbag system and added Dobinsons shocks and ToyTec springs. Only got the rears done before it got too late, thankfully we started on the back so he didn’t have to drive home Carolina squat style :grinpimp:

I recently TORT’ed about top load washing machines. After some bank account based soul searching, and the wife’s desire to buy more new furniture as a priority over everything else, I decided to forego replacing it with what I really want and instead throw money at the problem. So, I started and stopped at the cheapest possible fix - the four springs that support the wash tub. $60/set. An hour later it was all back together. Test load ran just fine. Before, it would unbalance itself and sling clothes all around thereby increasing the imbalance until the tub slammed around and it entered its rebalance phase…over and over and over again. The new springs didn’t feel any different to me when I pressed on each tub corner but they seem to have solved the problem.

Now I just need to figure out if all the captive water I heard sloshing around when I tipped the machine over is problematic or not. None of it leaked out when tipped but it sure does seem odd that that much remains a week after the last load. I’ll make damn sure to leave the top open between uses.

Still no truck wrenching, but I got some lashing points and paddle clamps installed on the kayaks today. And finally measured for a trolling motor on the loaner boat. 31” from top of bow to waterline when empty (just for a future reminder).

New TV hooked up at the lake. Vizio 55". Speakers are only about as good as the ones on my 24” LG bathroom tv at home. Makes me realize just how good my Samsung TV speakers are on all the others. But the vizio tv app works better with my crappy satellite Internet signal than the Samsung does. But only a lIttle. Yep, first world problems.

Poisoned some ant hills and a Yellowjacket nest, too.

Stain and poly for an outdoor table is next up. And a carb rebuild kit for the leaf blower @lumbee1 gave me is waiting, too.

Long weekend doing some much needed maintenance on my 80. The work ended up spiraling out of control and way more was done than anticipated but I am glad the work was done for sure.

Work included:
Troubleshooting the knock sensor CEL I have been getting for a few months. - I replaced the knock sensors, both 1 and 2, a while back but I knew the connection wasn’t great. Sure enough that was the issue.
fuel filter was finally replaced -we cut it opened and it wasn’t that bad inside. That was the first time the fuel filter has been replaced since I have owned the 80.
all suspension bushings were finally replaced with oem bushings.
I believe it’s like 14 total bushings that were replaced. - not including the 6 bushings on the front control arms I had already replaced a while back.
Upgraded drilled and cut rotors and new brake pads in all 4 corners.
Replaced bearings and wheel/axle seals with all new grease front and back.
it ended up being a pretty busy weekend and of course none of it would have been possible without Adam.
Thanks bro

Wow that is a lot of work, for real!

Not a huge amount of work but I did the front driver's wheel bearing on the mercedes along with a power steering pump replacement.

Also went back passed the guys house I bought it off of since his boat manual was in the spare tire compartment. He yave me a box of "spare parts" that the guy he bought the car off of had given him. He put it I his shed and forgot about them until recently when cleaning up. Looks to be an ecu, a turbo manifold and a couple bushings.
When I get home I look closer the ecu says stage two and a part number. I look it up and ask on some mercedes forums and it seems its a legit Sean Tracey ECU from the UK. The manifold turns out to be a twin scroll job from kangaroo racing In the EU.

So now all I need is a hx35 turbo to make out the little 3 ltr engine's pump to 300hp and 385 ft/lbs. If I get a bigger element pump then 400whp and 500wtq is on the menu with no other mods. Higher if I send the ecu back to tune for the specific pump.

Looks like things are coming up Milhouse

Oh and of course beefing up the stock trans.... and by that I mean swapping out the bellhousing on a v12 trans with mine and then using a stand alone controller since the gear ratios are slightly different.

SCORE!!

Yep!!

Talked to the guy that tuned the ecu yesterday. I was wrong he is in Ireland not the UK. But I should be ok to just run it. Only warning was don't do wot over 4750 rpm, only 750 below redline anyway, until I get a bigger turbo as the stock KKK unit won't feed enough air at that rpm for the fuel increase. But it will drive better under all.other normal driving conditions and if I want to romp on it I just manual shift it early.

I have a long 9 hour round trip inspection coming up so I'll switch it in the night before, bring the stock ecu with me, and see how it does.

The bushing replacement is on the list for my 80. I'm interested to hear what you think of the difference after the refit.

After I drove my truck through the rubicon my truck has never felt the same. Sure enough every one of the stock bushings was pretty bad.
I haven’t srievwn the 80 much but I am sure it will feel much better. Of course it will feel much better once I put the caster plates on also.

Your buddy needs an orangeboxx rear door drop down molle system, especially if he has the tan/ivory interior. ;)

I just happen to know where theres one with immediate delivery. LOL

I’ll let him know about it! He has the grey interior but I’m sure he won’t mind. PM me the details and I’ll pass them on

No much wrenching but it took a big load off my shoulders. When we had the Rtt group buy, some people were proactive and bought the extra cover in case the cover that came with the tent break or damage. The reviews were that the zippers were bad and the cove was low quality. I didn’t, i thought that i was never going to need to Replace it. Well, last trip the sucker broke. The zipper broke and we had to tie the sucker down to get home. I try ordering from Mombasa but they are out. I research and research and finally i found the Thule tepuy with the same dimensions. I installed it tonight and it fits like it was made for it. So i am back in business. My tent decided it was not going to be a Mombasa any more, it feels better as a Thule.

I did the same thing with my old Yugo, when the badge fell off the only one I could get to fit the same holes was Porsche :)
