I can tell you this Jon, My favorite truck to date was a 6.0L with a Tremec 5 speed manual. (Engage enabler mode)
What a blast to drive and the control over the RPMs was killer with that trans. I have driven 5.3L with Toyota 5 speed and not...
OE, Cometic, or Ceramic? Not sure ATM.
The LCEngineering kit doesn't list a thickness and Cometic offers 13 thicknesses and 1 MLX

Toyota has a new gasket that...
I did have an AFR. It usually stayed in the green. I was also using a smaller pulley when I added the intercooler. Looking back, I should of put on the ceramic head gasket, but I didn't know any better back then and they are expensive.
Damn brotha that sucks
I'd say figure out what you can afford LS swap is overall better and can be done on the cheap shopping around. Also factor not using premium in the LS so the MPG I'd actually that much better than a SC 1FZ
That sucks Jon. 3 of them, wow. Something is amiss for sure, those are some tall odds to have 3 like that.
In regard to the LS, you already know where I stand. Just do not cheap out, it'll have you under the hood more than driving it. You...
They're not going to say much of anything I'd wager. What do the head gaskets look like after the symptoms you've described?
Aluminum heads can be hard to get right, and can have hidden cracks unless they're heated before checking. Maybe the...
I've only recently started tracking MPG with the SC after installing the @Lutz Auto speedo correction. I know that it started running rough 2 months ago. (water in the cylinder at startup) so my full economy could be down because of that.
Same shop did my head. My head gasket is still good. I don’t have a supercharger though.
Sucks about your 80 man. Especially when I know you have been putting lots of time and money on it
Hate to read this Jon…..
On the bright side better to lose an engine than a truck ;)
Not sure whats at play. Put a 154k on mine with just a OE gasket at time of blower install at 179k on mine and didn't really see a difference from boosted to...
Have you pulled your spark plugs #5/#6. any signs of pre-detonation or heat damage? I used a Mr T. head gasket, i did have the enricher module and extra injector setup on dipity to keep the AFR around 12 under boost (keep it a little...
Sorry to hear this. I have White Sheeps 80 now and have been having the debate of a new motor or LS Swap. Downside is the amount of time involved in an LS swap. Did you have the smaller pulley on the blower? I was wondering if it may be the...
Nope. Factory pulley but as @fourtrax pointed out, I was not monitoring AFR. I read numerous posts of folks with SC and no AFR gauge. @White Sheep did have an AFR gauge in his Cruiser.
Mine was built by AutoMachine Shop in Fayetteville. @fourtrax last head work was done by them as well. @White Sheep used a different shop in Fayetteville. The only common factor is the supercharger and the same gasket.
I'm going to reach out...
Man, that sucks. I love my LS swap in the 40, but I don't get any better fuel mileage. 80's don't have the drag coefficient of a brick wall like a 40, but I think 15 would be a really good number unless you have some really tall gearing. The best...
Sorry to hear it Jon.
Who built your guy's engines? Three in the club using the lcengineering kit sounds to me more like a machine shop problem rather than that kit problem. Could be either (or both) though.
16K miles after my full engine rebuild, my Cruiser blew its headgasket. It had all the classic signs slowly starting to build (spikes in temperature, rough running, slow loss of coolant) however I wanted to ignore the warning signs. Last night...
Also, I don’t agree with gears being your issue.
Mine and a half dozen others I have built have stock gears and 35’s and don’t have your problem. Mine pulls good and strong from a stop with stock gears and 315’s.
Cheers
I picked up a nice lower mileage 2000 Hundy back in September. Nothing crazy cool, but a nice stock ride with only 105k miles on it. Added some tires and have been going through all the baseline stuff all winter. Pretty darn comfortable ride...
So sadly with the loss of LUNA last year I’d been on the hunt for a new exploring and camping rig. All over the map per the norm. Really hunting a 100 but found myself climbing the budget ladder last week and ended up grabbing a new wagon to...
