Going to log my progress on my new 2004 Ford Excursion 6.0 EB here so I can track it somewhere. The Ford forums....aren't great.

For those who missed it, I bought this low mile, rust free, really clean 6.0 Excursion with 160k miles on it a couple months ago to possibly replace my 2003 LX470 that I've owned for the past 9 years. Well, the LX was sold this past weekend to a buddy of mine from Denver, CO so this is officially the new daily.

This truck came with a BulletProof diesel semi-bulletproof kit so at this point is is bulletproofed, minus studs. Heads/studs are on the list to address.

First "mod" was putting a MBRP 4" stainless turbo-back exhaust on it which I got done yesterday. It was a really good price with the MDW sales at Autozone and somehow this specific system was included in the sale even though all other MBRP systems were not. Maybe I just got lucky!

Next I'm chatting with ATS about replacement leafs and shocks since this suspension is factory and has seen better days.

Maiden towing excursion (pun intended) to GSMTR? Not sure if you have access to a trailer yet.

Not a landcruiser! Found On Road Dead! Gonna fall apart! Shoulda bought a toyoter! Not made in Japan!

Sorry had to get that out of my system / take care of it for every else.

These things are sweet, for that class of vehicle not sure you can match it and seems like they also last for forever. Paint looks excellent too.. nice score I know you were shopping for a while. With the talk of doing head studs... going up to the boost after you do???

If you need anything on this reach out.

6.0 Fords paid for my first house. I’ve forgotten more than most people know. Not bragging just want to help if I can.
Will keep you in mind for sure! Thank you.

No trailer access yet and not thrilled about spending the money on a U-Haul when I could easily drive the 60. That would be a good maiden voyage though!

Maybe! Going to likely do KDD heads, studs and such then a FICM tune and likely a ECM tune. Turbo is only a year old factory replacement so not chomping at the bit to replace it yet.

It's gonna take 7 business days to do a detail pass on all that sheet metal real estate, but it's already super clean.

Have you checked out the shocks to see if they need replacement?

They are some cheapo Monroe shocks that were put on shortly before selling. Talking with ATS, they recommend their V/C code leafs and Bilstein 5100 shocks to pair with them and they said they've had great luck with that combo.

I had a 6.0 I bought new in 2005. Loved that truck, as well as the sound of it idling. What did you pay? I tuned it and it would roll coal, the Prius crowd in chapel hill hated it. Great vehicles, and good luck with your build!

I went with Bilstein 5100s on my f150 I had. I liked how they firmed up the ride and planted the truck more vs stock OEM floating sensation. I don't know about the leaf springs, but know I enjoyed the 5100s. Your updates are cool to follow on this rig.

Took a day trip down to KillDevilDiesel today to pick up my new set of o-ringed heads and a set of their up-pipes. I got a tour of their shop and got to talk two a machinist and one of their engine builders which was invaluable. I'm a true believer in the KDD heads after seeing their process. They touch every part of the casting when assembling to check tolerances, fit/form/function, etc. It's impressive. I also didn't know that KDD is located on Dennis Anderson's (Grave digger) compound.

The collection of parts has officially begun! I'm still doing a ton of research on parts but here is my list as of now of what is still needed. If anyone has any input to this list of things I'm missing or alternative options I should look at, let me know! @clrussell @GLTHFJ60

I'm surprised that @GLTHFJ60 didn't recommend doing an alternator ;)

We did talk about that at gsmtr. Doing an aftermarket alt is a great idea, especially paired with an atlas 80 ficm.

I'm glad it was mentioned, a story ill never forget lol

Updated parts list. Everything in Green has been ordered. The HPOP was replaced 3 yrs/25k miles ago and I assume the updated fitting kit and a new screen were installed but I am likely going to order another fitting kit and one of IPR's metal HPOP screens just to be safe.

Hoping to get started on this project soon!

@4LowandSlow the PO installed a new OEM Alt 25k miles ago so it'll be good until I get around to tuning the FICM. When I do tune the FICM, I'll replace the Alt and batteries for sure.

Makes me miss my 6.0, but damn, that thing was expensive to keep running. God speed, op.

No matter how much flushing i have done I still have casting material in the block. I put a coolant filter on and change it when I change the oil. There is always something in it when i cut it open. It amazes me.
