So is a $1100 preemptive maintenance item crazy?
Fully preemptive with no signs of noises or weakening? Maybe, but I too plan for worst case.

like you said, and I agree with you, I’d rather not deal with it on a long family trip, or if/when someone else is driving.

For people missed the 20% off Toyota deal, it's worth to mention that Lexus is running 10% off plus free shipping promotion.

The price varies between the dealers, and I found Bells Lexus of North Scottsdale has the best price. For example for the CV Axle, it is significantly cheaper than others, at $363 shipped, plus no core charge. If you don't have a better local dealer, you can try them, for free shipping.

I just placed an order yesterday, even with the supposed discount it was still cheaper through Partsouq.

Guess has to be item by item.
For example, the shipped price for a CV Axle is more than doubled @Partsouq ...

I am going to try if they will discount a short block 2UZ and gasket kit.:hmm:
Thanks for posting up.

Did a little bit of searching, 2UZ SB (1140050160) I found very few low priced with no discount but the 25% is really good.
Decatur= 25% $4153.95
Olathe= online price $5297.79
Bosch= online price $5273.71
No tax or shipping yet on these prices, I am almost ready to pull the trigger just need time to get other parts I need for the swap.

I wonder how much shipping on that would end up being? Isnt the shipping discount only good up to a certain amount?
Also, I know @2001LC asked it in some thread a while back, but I wonder if the short block is Japan made or US made. Would be interesting to see for sure.

Just so happened to need a new master cylinder and rear axle rebuild parts. Just saved over $400 vs my local dealer that always has the best online prices around. Thanks for the tip!

Finally managed to take advantage of one of this sales. Ordered a steering rack, $432.30 including shipping, not bad.. mine has been leaking for a while and kept it under an AT-205 diet for over 5 years, replaced 1 boot a month ago :confused:, but recently my LC started to wonder all over the place, thought it's control arms, but last night I checked it with the help of my brother in law and saw a 1.5in movement in all directions while moving the steering.
Also 2 rear upper control arms that had dry bushings and started to give, both TRE's and some other little stuff, filters, washers and consumables. $788 all in :beer:.

Weird that their part numbers don't identify the LC's compatibility. Searching for the steering rack using the VIN don't give any results, had to add it separately using the part # 44250-60100, and they put a disclaimer that says they aren't responsible if it doesn't fit.. hope I didn't messed it up.

@OGBeno are you sure on short block made in Japan?

I ask, because just last month I had this conversation with my wholesale parts guy (manager of department now). I've been working with him for ~23 years at same Toyota dealership. Whereas back about 6 years ago he did not know where the 2UZ was built. He now said; USA made. That no short block or heads are being imported. He could be mistaken.

I'd order two, a 2UZ-fe non VVT and a VVT today and the heads, if I knew for sure made in Japan!

Japan. Yes, I know for sure-- at least for Land Cruiser and 4Runner/GX applications.

And at the part counter level at a dealership, personnel do not have that kind of supply chain information. They can generally glean some intuitive information, but dealer parts personnel are far from being interested in supply chain and part procurement logic.
