Hey mate any updates on the old girl

The rolling chassis has been finished for a couple months just been slack having the cab blasted for the planned prep work and paint. Money is a bit tight at the moment as work has slackened off and I'm still paying for my sons European holliday so the 45's been on hold.

I'm going to get the cab blasted this week and start the rebuild. I got given a 45 power steer box a few months back and Rad delivered it over the weekend so all smiles. :)

Power steering oz! Jeez that's a bit flash.

I know mate but I gotta keep the hand brake happy.
I might not be able to run it as there's no mounts on a H engine for the pump and the steering column would need to be shortened to suit the extra length of the 40 box. I did find this old hj45 a few year back that had factory air con so I might go back and buy the rusty old girl for the air con and extra pulleys. Still waiting on a 12ht to come along to be honest and if that happens the whole build plan will change from a tortoise to a hare so it will need rotors, shorter 75 column, diff locks, etc etc

A 12H-T in a 45 is a nice motor oz.

I will sell you my ute if you want it 12ht included

If I buy a hj75 mate I be looking at yours for a rolling chassis with the later Y2K extra cab for leg room. ;)

Hey oz if you need another steering column shaft let me know I have 5 of them all sizes one might fit your power steering setup

G'day Ozcruiser,

If you do a power steering conversion on a HJ47 you can use the power steering pump and mount from a pre '84 HJ60. You should be able to use the same mount for the 'H' motor.

On the early HJ60's the right hand side engine mount also acts as the mount for the power steering pump. So the pump isn't mounted onto the side of the motor, it is bolted to the front of the engine mount. You should be able to pick up one relatively cheaply and the pump comes with its own tensioner, so you want the pump as well as the engine mount.

I'm unsure what side the radiator outlet and inlet are on with the H motor. However if the lower outlet is on on the right hand side you might need to make a slight modification so that it enters the radiator on about a 45 degree angle, instead of straight out, otherwise the lower radiator hose fowls the power steering belt. On the HJ47 you can still use the same lower radiator hose.

I don't know if this titbit helps or not.

Cheers,

Ben

Chappo that would be great if you have a shorter coluum to suit.

Pauciflora thanks man thats a great news mate. I never even thought about the engine mount for a place to have the pump mounted.
 Cheers guys :)

Try and measure from the box mount to where your normal colum and steering wheel end full length in the cab and I will see if one will fit or come close to fitting

No worries mate a had a quick look today and the power steering box looks around a 1 inch longer then a manual box.

When I added factory power steering to my BJ42 build I recall the box was longer, and therefore the column was shorter. I always thought it was 50mm+/- but it was 14 years ago.

Cheers Cult
I'm still toying with the idea to use a 75 coluum for the tilt option to gain a little more room when changing kogs.

Hey oz any updates mate

I'm still waiting on my mate rates on the epoxy primer as he is flat out at work and I haven't been there to give him much help because I'm busy as well. Its kind of a rest period for the old girl but don't worry my wife is serving me up ever chance she gets as its on the premier part of the driveway and she wants it. My sons back from Europe with a few friends so my house is kind of a nut house with people everywhere on weekends so hopefully in the next few weeks everything will calm down when the ladies return home. :)
