I think I remember that one I worked on had a safety wire in there

His has the tire wire present in the videos. Mine has that tire wire present. Keeps the little set screw that locates that shift arm casting on the shift rod from backing out. It is pointed, and the rod is drilled out for it.

What do you mean about the alternator and starter? Did it short them both out?

No, the ash was attracted to them I presume because of magnetic field in operation or slight permanent magnetic field. I didn’t even think about the possibility of shorting them out, but it wasn’t that much ash and I’ve been driving around all weekend so I think it’s not likely.

Copy. I assumed (likely incorrectly) it was a reference to this wire wrapped around the bolt….

Yes I was referring to the one you have retaining the washer there. Mine has the lock wire on the shaft bolt.

Pics of it with the bikes in the back

Didn’t take a photo with 1100 lbs of bikes in the back today- wasn’t too proud of how saggy it was looking! But handled it no problem. Here’s the dirtbike headed out to the desert this earlier summer. The Ram does it’s fair share of hauling.

I drove the donor back from Denver to LA on Tuesday. It’s a 1990 JDM HZJ73. I was surprised at the compression:

1: 515 psi
2: 520
3: 540
4: 490
5: 500
6: 500

This engine must have been rebuilt. 584k km on clock. No blow by.
Gonna be a great addition

The drivetrain is done and it's about to get stabbed. Big sign on the board says due in April because the crazy Commander is taking it to Japan apparently.
