Well summer came and went and then I ended up buying a 60 project. Didn't need much, had to finish headliner, put windows in and get it running. Nice rust free truck except middle of lower tailgate where a dent was repaired.

So back to the 45 finally! Started fitting rear sill cover.

Installed tailgate, drilled and welded in hinge fastener nuts. Same with tire carrier and latch.

I really wanted to fab up the original license plate holder which hangs off the left rear qtr panel but after hanging the plate it seems to stick out too far. I guess thats why they are all gone. Im going to fill the holes and put plate on tailgate. I have a license plate holder that should work.

I had the same thoughts about the license plate, wouldn’t last long driving through brush, et al, so mounted mine on the tailgate as well.

This is probably why the license plate bracket location on the LWB LPB is the cause for its removal and why so few remain today.

I wonder if this is why Toyota mounted the license plate on the tailgate on the later model FST 40’s w/tailgate?

@miller it looks like this is a former 40 FST tailgate due to the footman loops?

For the tailgate yes not original.

this is awesome work Troy.

I was talking with @UZJ40 last month and I was explaining how impressed I am with guys like him, and you @miller .

You just jump in and tear our the rust, repair it, build whatever you need. I can do some basic things around a car, but what you guys to to just "make it" is pretty amazing.

Good on you.

Thank you for allowing us to follow along. Impressive work!!!

Just let me know when you can start on my ‘63 bed…😬
