@Markuson swing by an autozone/checkers/oreily and pick up a $50 OBDII scanner. they plug into the port under the dash in the drivers footwell. you can read the codes, check online to make sure they aren't serious and clear them without erasing all your radio stations

it is odd that we all had similar issues.... @Atwalz , did you have the gas fume issue on Top of the world? will be interesting to see if you get the same codes.

I don't have any codes. I did spill gas on golden spike. Otherwise it was pressure buildup and I let gas cap loose and release pressure. I also smelled fumes on Red Cone, CO.

There were fumes coming from your gas cap. I could see it while I was behind you.

I do trail drive like a degenerate so I'm sure that exasperated the issue.

Right…. Now that you mention it I do recall "seeing" fumes when we were at the top (you know...how when you look through fumes and it bends light and makes for wavy images out of what you see through them?) . But last year, fuel was running out like a faucet on my rig just like Tony's was this year. So far… I've only ever experienced that on that one particular trail (top of the world).

Tony,
any concerns about running the positive battery cable across the front in an event of a front end collision, or will the ANL fuses mitigate that situation and any unintended effects?

Turns out I had the wrong socket to pull the CVs off so I did electrical work instead. It's 99% complete. I still need to wire in the battery link switch (jumps one battery to the other manually) and the little voltage gauge. I'll get some wire mounting P-clips to neaten everything up later. I'll probably change the 16AWG into the blue sea units to something more robust like 10ish, but 16AWG is rated at 22 amps so I'll be ok for now since I have nothing hooked up yet. The inverter needs a mounting plate. It's wedged in there pretty good and isn't going anywhere but I'm going to mount it to the rear of the drawers. The plug below the standard outlet is the AC inlet. When you plug in shore/camp power it'll charge the batteries and power anything that the inverter was powering. Pretty cool stuff. The outlets are a little cockeyed since I was missing some tools but you gotta piss with the cock you got.

Mind the mess.

Red light with the engine running means success!

Edit: Just ordered some 10AWG marine Red and Black for the Blue Sea units, the 16 will bother me too much.

Also, I have one more ANL fuse block that'll go next to the other one that'll fuse the aux battery. I just forgot to wire it in.

The ANL fuses will pop before any nonsense occurs, that's why I installed them.

It's safer than anyone running a winch that's permanently wired and not fused (most installs).

I understand, but I dont see ANLs on the pass side battery positive connections. That lead coming across the front would still be live/energized if the ANL on the driver's side pops. The ANL should always be placed as close as possible to the positive terminal.

Same applies for the power lead to your inverter.

They suggested trying a gas cap first. Mine wasn't clicking properly so I had them clear the codes and bought a new cap.

While at the dealer I checked out the new '18 Camry. I may have found my new daily driver, 40mpg on the highway in NON-hybrid trim, pretty damn nice for a vanilla appliance and I can get into one for under 20k. They're putting 3k on the hood of '17s too. If I lease it'll pay for itself in gas not driving the 200 to work. Hmm......

Ya, I really need a DD too... Gonna do the math and see about an option like this. Problem is...I LOVE driving my Cruiser...

The Camry was plush, man. I was surprised. I'd be happy driving it to keeping miles off the 200.

Walking into the dealer with a solid knowledge on leasing can get you a Camry for WELL under $200/mo.

I guess I'll document this is my thread.
The 4LO, check engine and trac off lights keep coming on still. A new gas cap didn't fix it.

After some research here are some threads I found. I'm gathering that through all the fuel bubbling it got into the canister and damaged it. Or there's a crack somewhere. I find it hard to believe that three of us got cracks in the canister though so I'm going with fuel in the canister or something. The theory is, wheeling on a full tank (which I did) is the cause. Same as overfilling like the thread below. This might be another reason to get an aux tank.

One idea is to pull the can and let it dry out, I might try that first. I know if I go to the dealer they're just going to throw new parts at it until it's fixed, all at my expense. The good thing is, once it's cleared, the vehicle is perfectly normal. Prior to clearing it won't go into 4Hi. So if this happens on the trail, just clear the codes and be on your way.

I'm basically going to blame tree hugging California liberals for this emissions nonsense.

Check VSC System Error - Fuel in Charcoal Canister

Here are the parts.

EMISSION COMPONENTS for 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser

Boch seems to be the cheapest at $662 shipped.

In the mean time, I'll just keep clearing the codes as they pop up.

Did you look at tundra canister at wrecking yard? I haven't checked it may be same part number.

we were discussing the probability of my truck getting messed with when we left it on golden spike. Figured the only people running that far out would be locals in hardcore rigs or tour group vehicles, didn't figure tree hugging hikers/mtn bikers would come along and mess with it.
we came up with the saying," the only reason I'd hug a tree, is to keep from kissing a rock!"

it was a long day, lots of time to ponder the events........what can I say.

do those lights only come on after you switch back from 4Lo? Cause thats what has happened to me couple of times, then couple days later, crank it up and gone

I need to get a code reader

No, from a cold start.

That's one weird aspect... I have the identical error...and yet why would it cause the 4Lo light to flash? Seems entirely unrelated...yet my 4Lo flashes exactly as yours does after cold start (since returning home).

Tony, don't you have a 2016? Is the issue you're having not covered by warranty or maybe you're out of warranty range?

I read somewhere that the pump will purge the system at night, that's why the code pops up in the AM. I was going to try one other scheme; drive the tank down to 0 range and let it sit for a week with the gas cap off to see if it'll fix itself. I tried that today but when I went to start my BMW to make sure it was drive-able tomorrow, the battery was dead.... sooo I'll try that cap off thing later this week.

Not sure if you're on FB or are part of the TLCA, but your cruiser is now the face of the TLCA's Facebook page.

Nice! I think? I'm not even a TLCA member. Maybe I can get a free membership. :) Hopefully they gave the photog credit at least.

Nope, mine is a '13 with 109k. Also, the evap isn't considered emissions equipment according to one of my dealers so the 125k emissions warranty doesn't apply.
