Are you going to cut it open?
Have you gotten your replacement tank from Cali?
He quit communicating with me so I welded as much as I could and then did a tank liner. It still leaking around the sender hole so I pressed on and got another user (Eric Ellis, which I want to thank again… Thank you Eric!) to send me one. I just got it but it needs to be cleaned up and I need to figure out where the vent holes lead to. I’ve got the original in the truck and am sorting out lots of other stuff and will pull it and swap in the near future.
The tank I got from Eric has four small vents. One on each corner. Then two larger vents on the filler side. The outlet has a threaded bung. I think there was a graphic someone posted that showed about 6 different part numbers for fuel tanks maybe even in the early years of the 55.

Hood never would stay locked down. Messed with the replacing the pin, the latch and the latch plate all thinking those were worn and still didn’t cure my problem.
Noticed the hood pin trapped nut inside was loose and one or two wiggles and snap! The nut broke free inside.

Ovalized the whole pulled the nut and cleaned it then tig welded the nut back to the two layers of sheet metal. Sanded and spot primed and ready to give it another try.

This thread is a good resource for Pig fuel tanks:

Looks like you had been in there a little while ago. That is when I first saw your Pig!

Here is the graphic you may have been thinking of:

It wasn’t from Spector… it was a grid with factory parts numbers and year break downs. But it equally explains it I guess.

Might have been @WarDamnEagle , he is good at posting year ranges...
Maybe; I don't remember.

Here's 1973 through 1978. Easy enough to do it for other years if you need the information @Blastservices

77100TANK ASSY, FUEL
77100-60080(08/1976 - 08/1977)1
77100-60081(09/1977 - 12/1978)1
77100-90363(02/1973 - 04/1976)1
77100-90371(05/1976 - 07/1976)

Darn, 3 different tanks for 1976???

This is a bit more info than SOR posted.

Thanks @WarDamnEagle ! Would you be able to run for all the years and then post in here: anybody ever put an fj40 fuel tank in an fj55? - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/anybody-ever-put-an-fj40-fuel-tank-in-an-fj55.1247738/page-2

With the combination of the rear tailgate seal from slocruisers as well as the Toyota plastic clips that replace the wire clips and the long skinny metal bars that hold the seal in from @61twpw i got this seal installed. A few choice words and holding my tongue just right… glad that’s over. Still not sure there is or isn’t a felt channel that goes on this side as well. The parts break down is ant clear cut and it only shows a quantity of 1 of felt channels so my guess is this is how it went. Originally.

Slocruisers also mentioned he had these rear reproduction badges that are pretty nice! I bought one from @Pigeaten but will hang onto it until I decide which I like the look of better. This one has a little larger diameter install pins as well as a little shorter.

Disregard my ugly “antique” plate. It’s temp until I get my YOM 73’ plate back from the DMV

long neck bottle just a hair above freezing

At AB we would fill the bottles at 32 degrees in order to keep the foaming down, but man was that good. Filler beer or "green beer" as they called it was before the pasteurisering and still had the live yeast bacteria in the beer which gave it a great taste. Only drawback was your system had to get used to the bacteria, if you know what I mean.

Sounds like a great learning curve when you are the new guy!
