I just guessed on the mix. It came out about what I wanted.

Has anyone lined the flares when doing the whole truck? If so are there any special prep steps for the flares?

I lined mine.

No special prep per se, just make sure you scuff up the surface well.

Thanks. Did you pull them line then re-attach them or just line in place. You rig looks really good. Hell all these rigs look great!

Left em.

So, I need to monstaline my 80. I don't have the time to do the whole thing so I'm thinking I will just do the bottom half (I have the beginnings of a little rust on the bottom of a door (not bad for 17 years in Iowa!). I am going to remove the side molding (black rubber stuff) and fender flares. The question I have is: When I go to do the top half of the vehicle in the spring, how do I blend in with the Monstaline that I am doing now? Do I just roll over it a little bit? Also, I'm thinking about doing desert tan (my 80 is metallic beige) for the bottom half right now but contemplating going all WWII OD Green for the whole vehicle in the spring. Can I just go right over the top of the desert tan and just know that it is going to be a little thicker there?

Doing it this way will allow me to address the immediate concern before another winter of salt. And I don't have time to take the sliding glass out and replace the rubber and stuff.

Thanks for all of your help.

Good thread idea :) Just finished painting the last bits and pieces from the rear bumper so finally have some real pics to share.

Yup, all rolled. Front bumper is AOE and rear bumper is Sean Huston Fab out of San Diego.

I know a lot if not most people on Mud are fans of Monstaliner. I hate to be that guy but it seems I am that guy.

I wanted to like this product, I really did. See my posts in this thread a ways back asking about how it works.

Mine got done in late June of 2014. I didn't have time to do it and also needed a re-clear plus had some painting done so I had a buddy do it who is a pro. He restores cars for a living and has been doing that his whole life. He sanded it all back, he followed the instructions and he sprayed it on at my request. Within 2-weeks I had several large chips in the liner. Now 6 months later I have upwards of 10 large chips. Just the other day I had my hood up, hood struts are shot so I had a 2x4 in there holding hood up. It falls out and hood slams down on the board. About 5 nice sized chips in the liner on my hood now.

Sorry folks but Monstaliner is weak and sucks. I can not attribute my chips to application. The dude who sprayed it one restores $50-100k muscle cars. I am positive he did it better than 99.9% of people in this thread. From what I have seen, it is just like and no better than Dupli-color or whatever that cheapo roll on bedliner you get at the auto parts store. In fact I put that stuff on a work truck over 10yrs ago and it chipped just like Monstaliner had the same finish, ect ect.

Eventually, I am going to have to have it all sanded back and get a real liner applied like Line-X. Had Line-X on a truck before and it was awesome, never chipped, tough as all hell. I don't care about color since I went black anyways.

For me Monstaliner was a waste on money and now has made my truck expensive to get it done right. I was going to go Line-X originally but people on Mud swear by Monstaliner so I gave it a try. Bummer for me it sucks and is chipping badly and easily. At least as easily as my paint chips, maybe easier. Rocks make it blow out and flake off around the rock hit. It is lame.

Cheers

Well, mine has been done for a bit. Did my rear wheel well trim and monstalined the the bottom 1/3rd of the rig and then the flares also.

That sounds like something went wrong with application/surface prep or a bad batch. There's a 1000 page thread on the jeep forums that make your experience an exception, not the norm. I wouldn't hesitate to use this product again.

I'm w JCardona

Mine has been beat on pretty hard & hadn't chipped.

I see you had it sprayed on, though this product was designed to be a roll-on solution. I'm guessing the solvent used may have something to do with the chips, but that's just A guess.

Sorry to hear ab your poor experience.

Eventually we ended up Monstalining my buddies Teryx SxS and his came out great. He runs over trees, etc and generally doesn't give a f***. No chips yet.

I'm not trying to bash your friend but something is mussing on the application process. What it sounds like is the monstaliner isn't holding. Which means the surface has either contaminants or wasn't prepared properly.

I would accept the possibility of a bad batch but not bad application. If you knew my buddy who did it you would know he is way skilled and doesn't screw up something as simple as liner application. He saved my paint and it looks like a $5k paint job now, it was only about a $1k paint job and like I said the clear was farked because it had been done wrong. Had I needed to paint the truck to get it looking like it does now, that would have cost me $5-10k. This dude has 20+yrs experience and went to Wyotech, chances of him screwing up Monstaliner are slim to none. Plus I saw pics of my truck while he was working on it and he did it right.

Bad batch is just as farked in my opinion. I am screwed either way, have chipping liner and am going to have to re-do it in the next year or two. That is a huge bummer for me. Will never touch Monstaliner again.

Ya we did spray it, following the specs and recommendations of Mostaliner. I called them, asked gun tip size, pressure, ect which I gave this info to my buddy. Monstaliner did not say to me, it is best if rolled or brushed. They said spraying works great too and gave me the specs like I say. So kind of hard for me to contribute the probs to the fact we sprayed it on.

By the way it was done in a $50k temperature controlled paint booth.

I hear ya but read what I just posted. If he took bad clear that was new but flaking and peeling and sanded it back and then re-cleared making my truck look like it had fresh paint then he can handle sanding for some liner application.

Cheers
