Last weekend, I went to:
  • Oskar Blues. Heaven!
  • Appalachian Mountain Brewery in Boone. Don't necessarily feel a need to go back.
  • Blowing Rock Brewery. Flight of all ales + a pint + awesome food. Love their beers, full of flavor and variety. The boiled peanuts (boiled in their Scotch Ale) alone was worth the visit. ;)
  • Wicked Weed. Good enough, always packed hence lazy service, perhaps a touch overrated? Didn't find anything exceptional here.
  • Green Man - awesome laid-back place, awesome beer!
  • Burial - watch out for these guys! They're in a dump around the corner from Green Man, only open Thu-Sat, you can play foosball in their nano-brew spot, their beers were fantastic and the guys super cool to talk with.
  • Foothills Taphouse - good food, beer was excellent as expected.
  • Brueprint in Apex - kind of an odd space in an industrial park, looks like the owner is in for pretty high volume production. Did a flight of their ales, all were good - nice to have another quality microbrew close to home.

You and I share opinions on these two breweries. I was completely underwhelmed by wicked weed.

i posted this on facebook but thought i'd post it here also

Russian Imperial Stout aged in Pappy Van Winkle barrels

One day release only $18 per 22oz bomber. One case per customer (althought it doesn't say what a case consists of)

Sadly i'll be working but I have a friend grabbing me one, if you are around and like a good rare beer i'd go to this if I was you.

Picked up a growler of NODAs Gorgeous pumpkin and Harpoon's Maple Porter. The pumpkin is surprisingly good. Haven't gotten to the harpoon yet. ETD in 4 hours when I get home from work.

At fortnight brewery in Cary. Great place all English style ales and four ales on cask..... Yum!!!!!

So I have a bet with a my bosses' peer who is a big Giant's Fan and I am a big KC Royals fan. Our whole organization is on copy on this email that had the bet in it . . .

I have offered up a 6-pack of anything from Freestate, Boulevard or Tallgrass here in Kansas.

The other better, who initiated the bet, didn't have an offer, so I am asking around:

What three breweries would you pick for NC to represent? As background, I like Bells, Founders, Firestone, Lagunitas, Russian River, Bear Republic a lot (just as examples). I can't remember local to NC breweries that I just LOVED as it has been a while. I liked the Duck Rabbit stuff I have tried.

I can't say enough about this brewery. If you are a beer fan you have to check it out..... having and ale on cask is one of the most pure ways to enjoy a quality beer.
