Phares
Mostly Useless
I sold my perfectly good 2010 4WD lifted Double Cab Tacoma. There was several reasons for doing this. The main reason is that financially with the wife no longer working due to a baby on the way I wanted to free up some money month to month and two car payments wasn't helping. I also grew increasingly uncomfortable with my lack of knowledge and ability to do anything but change the oil on the newer Tacoma. Lastly, I believe our country's fiscal policies, foreign policies, Constitutional policies, military policies, etc. are leading to the inevitable result of having the Power controlled by a select few and the development of a group of citizens forced to keep their heads down and live day to day. Becoming fiscally independent as well as vehicularly self-sufficient has rapidly moved up my list of priorities. More money/time into the land, myself, and my family has become the driving factor in the development of my goals. Sorry, I didn't mean to rant but our reasons for owning old metal is as important as the vehicles themselves. They are extensions of ourselves. Otherwise, we would all drive Volvos. But onto the good stuff: I was able to find this 1980 Toyota Pickup SR5 Longbed in amazing shape for 3500$ locally on CL. I mention the number with the belief that I certainly got a good deal and to keep people informed of the market. I intended to walk away from this truck and look for an early 90s model but the longer I had to think about it the more I wanted to rescue it from an uncertain fate. It is only 2WD but since I have the 40 I wasn't to concerned with it. This trucks purpose will be to get me to and from work, 3 miles each way, and various Lowes/Home Depot duties. It has the 5 speed manual mated to a 20R Motor with the original carb etc. The paint and wheels are original. Check out the radio and the floor mats! It drove the 70 miles home great but idled a bit rough when we got home. (All warmed up). It had little quiet backfires a couple of times. Is it running rich? Or idle too low? It never died though. I meant to get pictures of the engine but forgot before coming inside. I will post them tomorrow. I attached a photo of the output shaft from the transmission that seems to be the site of a leak. Anyone identify whats leaking? My plans are just to drive the truck. I'm not going to lift it, restore it, or do anything but maintain it. It has a lovely patina and seems like it is going to be perfect for my needs. I welcome your thoughts and comments on Jasmine. (Name is still being voted on). First thing is change the fluids, windshield wipers, acquire FSMs, and enjoy it. Thanks.
