I sold my perfectly good 2010 4WD lifted Double Cab Tacoma. There was several reasons for doing this. The main reason is that financially with the wife no longer working due to a baby on the way I wanted to free up some money month to month and two car payments wasn't helping. I also grew increasingly uncomfortable with my lack of knowledge and ability to do anything but change the oil on the newer Tacoma. Lastly, I believe our country's fiscal policies, foreign policies, Constitutional policies, military policies, etc. are leading to the inevitable result of having the Power controlled by a select few and the development of a group of citizens forced to keep their heads down and live day to day. Becoming fiscally independent as well as vehicularly self-sufficient has rapidly moved up my list of priorities. More money/time into the land, myself, and my family has become the driving factor in the development of my goals. Sorry, I didn't mean to rant but our reasons for owning old metal is as important as the vehicles themselves. They are extensions of ourselves. Otherwise, we would all drive Volvos. But onto the good stuff: I was able to find this 1980 Toyota Pickup SR5 Longbed in amazing shape for 3500$ locally on CL. I mention the number with the belief that I certainly got a good deal and to keep people informed of the market. I intended to walk away from this truck and look for an early 90s model but the longer I had to think about it the more I wanted to rescue it from an uncertain fate. It is only 2WD but since I have the 40 I wasn't to concerned with it. This trucks purpose will be to get me to and from work, 3 miles each way, and various Lowes/Home Depot duties. It has the 5 speed manual mated to a 20R Motor with the original carb etc. The paint and wheels are original. Check out the radio and the floor mats! It drove the 70 miles home great but idled a bit rough when we got home. (All warmed up). It had little quiet backfires a couple of times. Is it running rich? Or idle too low? It never died though. I meant to get pictures of the engine but forgot before coming inside. I will post them tomorrow. I attached a photo of the output shaft from the transmission that seems to be the site of a leak. Anyone identify whats leaking? My plans are just to drive the truck. I'm not going to lift it, restore it, or do anything but maintain it. It has a lovely patina and seems like it is going to be perfect for my needs. I welcome your thoughts and comments on Jasmine. (Name is still being voted on). First thing is change the fluids, windshield wipers, acquire FSMs, and enjoy it. Thanks.

Nice little truck. My grandfather had one that he drove forever but it was a 79 model. It had a camper on it and we would sleep in the back as we drove down 287 and I35.

Awesome find. It's in really good shape too. I'm digging the wheels and the SWEET graphics.

NO BED RUST!! That has to be one of the cleanest and best kept pickups I have seen. Very nice and I am glad to see it found a good home. You are certainly right that it's fate could have been much worse.

And not to get into off-topic land, but I completely agree with your reasoning.

Look what I found when I cleaned out the cab today! In 40-Land these things would fetch a mint! I doubt they are as popular in mini-truck land. Also known as the land of misfit toys. I have the long bar clipped into the back of the cab too. Can anyone tell what color this truck is specifically? It almost looks dune beige but with more yellow.

That is a time capsule. The only options it is lacking are vent windows, factory rear slider and A/C. The paint code is 489, my 1980 RN47 4WD was the same color. Very cool find.......

That is a great color. I considered doing mine that color, since I had it all apart, and there was a similar color available in the 84-88 era, but stuck with the factory red.

The real question is: what color are those tools in that kit? I have all of mine from '87, but they are pretty beat/scratched up now. It's not black, it's not brown, it's something in between.

It's a dark gloss brown originally, except for the lug wrench.

The black marks on the bag are typical and come from the asphalt insulator pads on the floor and back wall of the cab. They never did fully harden. They were painted over but can still bleed through.

Shaman of the Toyota people...

Very nice, love the retro...and congrats on the baby btw!

I was browsing the forsale section today and I came across a post from two years ago for a 20R Aisin carb rebuild kit. I looked up the part at advanced auto and came across this:
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/we...t-gp-sorensen_5113911-p?searchTerm=carburetor

Sam mentioned parts being difficult to come by OEM wise so I was curious if anyone had any opinion on the above kit. The truck runs slightly off once warmed up. backfires a little, and I think it is the carb. Acceleration is fine, running at speed is fine. It is idling about 750RPM. Like I said, it rumbles a little, coughs some, and small backfires. Before I do anything crazy I am going to adjust the idle screw etc...If anyone can email me copies of the FSM pages concerning the carb I would be appreciative. Thanks!

Possibly the AAP diaphragm.

Sweet find there, the lack of rust is amazing . How can you not love the round eye Toyotas.

You've got to be kidding me!

This is what I found when I left work this evening. Security is checking the footage. There was no note. I have only had the truck for two weeks. Sam, others, can you get the bumpers still? The side parking light? It looks like they only snagged the bumper and the light. The body panel is fine. Thank goodness. I'm going to beat them with a croquet mallet.

Sonofabitch........

I'm sorry to tell you that those items are discontinued. The aftermarket may still have something.

That really sucks.
