I feel like mine is loud.

Conversations at speed are not easy

I imagine your noise at speed might be different than mine. I’ll never be able to have a conversation at speed without an intercom system when I am running the soft top. It sounds like a tent in a severe wind storm. Ha.

The Corolla floor ranges from 95-125°F after a 25 minute drive on the highway. That carpet and padding must really do wonders to reduce the heat.

I’m thinking a lot of your high speed noise is from the soft top, I don’t think I’ve ever seen 95db.
I had a 4” MRBP Quiet tone muffler to begin with and was not happy. I cut it up to make an 8” air filter housing. I took the fiberglass blanket stuff out and layered it below the shifter rubber boots and I think that helped a lot on sound, maybe on heat too not sure.

It sounds like I need to get my act together and finish lengthening my hard top! I’m impressed that I’ve been able to lower the noise to levels that are close to your Cruiser with the hard top. I will keep plugging away and see what I can do.
Inspiration.....

Speaking of intercom I’ve actually considered this for my 40 for a couple planned trips.

Any recommendations?

I’ve seen these and they look clutch. Plus the ability to play music in them.
Price tag slows me down.

The soft top is loud. I am having some of the same DEI carpet lite material that I am having installed under the carpet also added to the top in a month so hopefully That will quite it down a bit.

I didn’t realize that you had a 43! That is the best size. My friend who has a handle one letter different from you had a 47 for many years and it was very long.

The intercom system that I am looking at is a little bit more expensive than the one you listed. I was looking at getting one from rugged radio that also works with my ham/GMRS frequencies.

I guess I am not used to the refined life, my 40 has no top, vynil half doors, 38 bias ply tires, an ls, a straight thru exhaust and I can have a chat on the freeway. The fuel pump is the loudest thing.

You might want to get that fuel pump checked out if it is louder than your straight pipes. Haha. I’m getting this cruiser ready for a cross country trip so I’m willing to experiment and see how quiet and cool I can make it.

My Walbro external pump was same when I originally got it with the Sniper kit, just obnoxiously loud mounted on the frame rail. It got very hot, and within 2 years and not many hours it started to really bother me. Switched to an in-tank setup and it’s been a huge improvement.

“I drove the Cruiser on the freeway for an hour yesterday and it is so much better to drive.

... It’s too dangerous to throw a code while traveling in rush hour traffic and the computer disables the accelerator function. It usually happens right at the time when traffic goes from 5-100 mph. I suppose a cable-driven accelerator would have fixed that but I am not changing that.”
Can you get up to 100 mph on Peña Blvd in traffic?

I finally replaced my windshield washer reservoir and I can now clean my windshield while driving down the road! The luxuries!

I wrapped my left exhaust down pipe today and my floor temperatures are between 85 and 110°F, which is a significant decrease! Also, the Cruiser has been sitting outside in the sun all day and the engine compartment is 25°F cooler with a hood liner on it. Of course this is just sitting out in the sun. The temperature under the hood when it’s running is no different, which I expected. However, there is a significantly less sound coming inside of the Cruiser from the engine compartment.

The Cruiser is at Altitude Speed and Fab this week for some tuning work. They called today to let me know that someone installed a Corvette throttle body, which the tune wasn’t set up for and it was only opening the blade approximately 70%! I might need to downsize the engine when I get it back as I’m afraid to find out what 100% throttle feels like.

While it is in the shop I am also having them tig weld a new intake. I also asked them to wrap the intake in some heat deflective tape to keep the IAT down.
