I am finally done with the home remodel project and I have a little free time to work on the Cruiser. I removed the glass, cut the right hard top panel and mocked in place to give a general idea for where the cage will go.

My right side glass is available if anyone wants to trade for a rear ambulance door glass.

You just need one ambulance door glass?
I have doors that are really bad but I think the glass is good.

I can’t find one of my original pieces of glass for some odd reason. I’ll have to take a closer look under the house and see if it turns up but I have a feeling that it got broken in one of many moves.

I don’t need it for another year as I don’t plan to finish the top now. I’ll finish it next summer/fall so that I can have it on by next winter. The top will come off when the cage is mocked up so I can weld and paint, then build the soft top frame.

I have plenty of corner glass but I’d be happy to send you an ambulance door glass. I’ll look at it and make sure it’s good.

So… what are you doing to extend your top sides? I have a left and right that are ate up at the front and rear corners but are ok in the middle, extra.

I am with you 100%. I haven’t had the hard top on in at least 20 years and it has gotten pretty worn being moved all over the state in various moving trucks, plus it somehow got a little rusty being under our house in the crawl space. I sat in the back seat over the weekend after I threw those crunched fiberglass pieces on top to see how it felt with the top in place and I loved it.

I am torn between finishing the mechanicals wiring and interior next or changing directions to finish the hard top but I have decided to continue with plan A. There is enough rust repair and custom fabrication with the top to keep me busy for a few months and I need to finish the rest of the Cruiser first so that I can drive it while I tinker on the hard top. Perhaps I’ll build a pulley system in my garage to hang the top from and I can lower and work on it over the weekends.

It does look pretty sweet with the hard top.

There are a million parts to a hard top and its expensive getting all the new rubber . I highly suggest finishing everything else first and get out and enjoy the 40 a little , work out any bugs , There will be . Then just chip away with the top .

Once the roll bar is done I’ll climb back under the hood and finish the wiring and placement of the final pieces, then I’ll spend some time repositioning the front driveline. Once that is done it should be close to springtime and, depending on how wet our winter is, I should be able to take it up into the mountains for another test, this time with 4-wheel drive.

Somewhere in there, or nearing the end of spring, I’ll drop it off to have the A/C charged, interior upholstered and the soft top built. I’ll throw a rear tire carrier on last, hook up my camper and head to our cabin in the San Juans. Piece of cake…give or take a few months/years. Ha.

Today was productive. I cut the original fiberglass top and made a bracket for the windshield washer fluid. I had to relocate my reservoirs because my suspension is in the way. I also hooked up my defrosters and I am impressed with the amount of air that the new system pushes to the glass. The volume is easily 3 times more powerful than stock. My tube and the final wheel also arrived!

Thanks! That’s quite the compliment considering the precise attention to detail that you have. After a few months away from the tools I had a heck of a time getting organized. I’ll call this the test run before we start welding tube in. I had a lot of fun creating the bracket.
