Even with five coats of lizard skin ceramic heat shield and DEI under floor heat shield, the floor temperature inside the Land Cruiser got up to 150°F plus last week while driving to work in about 85°F ambient temperature temperature. I’m trying this catalytic converter heat shell from DEI to see if that helps reduce the heat. We will see how this works and I am open to additional suggestions.

I will say that I just drove it for 3 hours and the floor temp never rose above 110°F, so we are making progress. I have some exhaust wrap coming. I’m not a huge fan of wrapping the pipe but I don’t really care if it drops the temps further.

Make some ducts off your skid plates. I have a few of those and one on my aux radiator and it makes a huge difference.

Wierd, Mike, I have zero heat shield and the muffler & exhaust pipe are closer to the body and mine doesnt seem to get that hot. Now you got me wondering, I am gonna get her hot and take a floor temp just to see the difference if any, who knows, maybe my floor is 110* plius but I doubt it.

Thanks for doing this. I am interested to see what you find out. I have a cat under my floor and the whole pipe in front of the cat is turning blue. I am thinking that might be the problem. 110°F is so much better than 150°F but it is still pretty warm in there. I should also add that these temps are with the A/C cranked all the way up. This thing has never been this hot before with any engine or exhaust.

Mike, are your inner fender wells intact? If they are maybe adding louvers to the inner fender wells will help with air flow.

My inner fender wells are cut out but I am planning to rebuild them with louvers to allow air to flow through and out near the headers. Without them though, I don’t believe my floor is as hot as you are seeing but I have never taken a tempura reading.

I run open top 24/7 and it does drift in when coming to a stop sign but goes away pretty quick. my exhaust exits alomst same as yours. the other thing that effects that is wether your comp tune uses a VSS to control fuel, mine relys on the crank & O2 so it takes a second after coming to stop sign to adjust, if yours has a VSS it should be adjusting faster and you should get little exhaust smell, if its real bad check the fuel maps & ratio readings to see if they are tracking and in range, may be too much fuel on low end ? Is your muffler straight thru ? I used a magnaflow universal that can go in either way & is striaght thru, that may be effecting your heat as well.
