Yeah, that was my point. I wonder if the “issues” I had read about were more toward the perfectionist crowd than me.
It’s both. I’ve had engine conversions that had idle air issues that were so bad that the engine would accelerate (surge) to 2500 rpms, then stumble and stall when a load was applied from engaging a manual transmission. I’ve also seen ones that had a 4-500 rpm differential at idle when putting a load on it from the transmission. These were all with either aftermarket EFI or the TBI Vortec transplants, and all but one of these were fixed, and it seemed like the biggest factor that I came across, other than the tune, was with adding a heated O2 and positioning the O2 and MAF sensors correctly. None of them had a VSS.

Most of them just simply fired up and ran without an issue other than maybe a minor 25-50 rpm differential, which seemed perfectly normal. Our stock 1993 Chevy truck was like that and it was fine.

I was asking the questions now because I needed to make the decision about what to do with the harness. That decision has been made and the transmission wires have been deleted. Next I will mount the battery, extend some of the wiring and build a fuse block, then I can get back to wrapping up the wiring under the dash and to the rear. I’m really glad that you steered me towards reconfiguring my factory engine harness. It has been satisfying to figure out where everything goes.

I built a tone ring and attached it to the parking brake drum on my split case. Used a cheap wheel speed sensor to feed the signal to the ECU. Granted, it's a Holley Terminator X, but I think it's the exact same signal a stock ECU is looking for. Details here:

Just a second. The VSS ring is very clever, and the video before that is impressive. That doesn’t sound like a factory 6.0l. Is your engine supercharged?

It’s stock LQ9. I freshened the heads but the bottom end has 160k out of an Escalade. Didn’t even swap the cam. What you are hearing is tcase whine from a 4:1 split case that had very few highway miles on it. I’ve put a couple thousand on it since that video and it’s quieted down a good bit. I also got a rear shock on the passenger side rear. That was missing when I shot that. so a burnout isn’t life risking anymore should the mood hit you.

That seems like fun to drive and I love the sound! I’m glad that you got a shock under there. I was a little nervous at first. I am excited to get my engine going. The power looks snappy.

Done. Now I just need to tape those wires around the positive terminal and run them straight to the engine harness without any fuses and it should be good to go.

I got this battery tray from Ruffstuff three years ago and it was the first fab part that I acquired. I thought about remaking it since I have learned so much along the way and I could take pride in yet another part made out of a garage using an old broken table saw as a workbench. But then I realized that I have more pride in the fact that I didn’t waste my time and effort, and it works great! I did fab the fender bracket. 🙄

I’ve made a little more progress this weekend. The left side engine harness is in and I am working on connecting the right side to the factory harness. My computer is programmed and lost in the mail somewhere between Kansas and Colorado so hopefully it makes an appearance this week. Brendan was able to program two signals for the VSS input and I have the hardware for the signal wires in my connector and computer so I ran those wires today.

Love the wire holder, maybe a bit overbuilt but great idea
It works, but you inspired me to purchase a set of wire clamps as I have a bunch of soldering left.
Looking good!! You're getting close!
Thanks! It might be another month or so before I can fire it up as I still need a fuel source. So close!!!

If you still using the stock tank, I really like the in tank pump from a Yukon. I had zero issues with it. Cutting a hole in the tank was nerve racking tho.

I’ve got an aftermarket pump somewhere that matches the GM design. I intended to put that pump into an S10 tank under the rear but that plan didn’t work because the tank didn’t clear my axle. I’m planning to have a custom tank made to fit under the rear with a notch for the differential.

I will most likely follow @Farmer Thomas ‘s lead and use Racer's Choice Inc. - https://www.rciracing.com/supportcells.html unless there are other recommendations to consider.

Me too. We have spent a lot of time in Ouray and surrounding areas since the early 80’s. My parents had a cabin built outside of Lake City towards Creede in ‘83. This picture must have been taken in 1992 -1994. I should take the cruiser back once it’s done to snap a few photos in the same places.
