Some proof that our trucks are appreciating...

It’s not proof of anything. For reliable data you should go by a median, not a single example.

That said, I did recently spend $140 to tint my windows, so I’m reasonably certain that added between $50 and $55 to the value of my land cruiser which is probably worth a solid $4k, maybe around $6k if I part it out.

Okay, how about "anecdotal proof" combined with empirical evidence (sample size 1) that asking prices are going up, up, up? ;)

Well gas is cheap right now, just like they were a couple years ago, the las time these posts were common. Pretty sure that stupid 96 limo was for sale then too...

What would be truly beneficial would be if there was a database of the actual sold prices of these trucks. I know there is some data on eBay, which is nice...I see asking prices all over the place on the interwebs.

i would say clean 80s are going way up. like under 150K, triple locked, 100% factory and in great condition.

now the average unlocked, dented, faded paint, and busted up leather 80 has stayed at the same 3K to 6K depending on miles.

Going by NADA values, which is the centralized database of sorts that you're looking for, they are. I looked up book on my 40th about a year ago, and I seem to recall it coming in a little under 10k. Now? Fookin' 18k. Wtf.

3x locked. Nice condition. (Not pristine, mind you) 176k mi. I paid 5k last month. :D

Just my 2 cents, to me this is just some used car lot looking for a buyer with more money than brains, not an indication of rising values. YMMV

there's a 6BT swapped cruiser in the local craigslist for $44k or something. Doesn't even have a clean interior :o

A little high but I do see the nice ones going for more and more money. 40th Anv, Collectors editions, the black ones and anything clean is going for good money. I've seen them sell in the low 20's with no issue. There are people out there with disposable income that used to have one or always wanted one that are now buying them. Knowing they can easily go to 400k with maintenance.

Not everyone wants to spend the day scouring the internet for their dream car at a low price.

On another note they should have probably replaced the air bag module before they took the picture of the dash. As they get older I'm seeing more and more 80's that have sat with dead batteries have that module go out.

So this is likely the kind of seller that claims 50 grand invested; so Buy now and save 6000$.

So this guy is in business to LOOSE money? I think not.

But if he IS, give him my phone number! I’ll bring a wheel barrow, or even a dump truck , and he can load it up with whatever: pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and/or hundred dollar bills! Anything to help him out.

This really hits the nail on the head. The value of an 80 is based upon the how much money the buyer wants to spend. Well maintained 80s will demand high prices because they’re a great platform and there’s a growing group of buyers who want to spend the money on building up a killer truck. If you want to build a solid-axle, body-on-frame 4x4, your options are limited. Land Rover, Mercedes G, Jeep JK, etc. Within that subset, it’s either junk or egregiously expensive. Suddenly, a $12-15k stock 80-Series seems like a pretty good deal.
