So the pig got a new exhaust system routed today, was towing it back from exhaust shop and I notice my truck is kinda inching forward at a stop light.... (06 Dodge 5.9 4wd auto trans 48re...) Tired I think my foot might be resting on the gas accidentally. Look down adjust and it is not my foot.... Put in neutral rpms climb then dive to a normal idle. Does this again when I put back into drive... Shifts 1st to 2nd a little odd. Driving home go down the dodge forum rabbit hole and it was what I thought maybe. 48RE Torque converter failure. Call the local trans shop to confirm and yes indeed these are the correct signs and symptoms of a torque converter failing on a 48re trans.

So my tow rig to SAS now out of service, I jog my brain here first off I am thankful this didn't happen in BEF on my drive out. Now to the realization part? Can I do a torque converter in time? 8 hours R&R book time probably take me 12 hours on my back with a handful of new 4 letter words. It has 230,000 miles on it anyways and all I do with this thing is tow.

I go through my list of people and make a call to someone whom has always had my back. I'll now be towing with my co workers 2001 7.3 excursion out, upon return from SAS i'll be pulling the trans and using those colorful 4 letter words. Until then can't wait to see / meet everyone. Should be rolling in Monday evening. Youll see the 55 and wont miss this blue clapped out excursion that my co workers wife just backed into 2 weeks ago and destroyed the passenger side. 😂💀

Cheers everyone.

I did a transmission swap the day before coming to SAS2. You got this. Great friends are a huge help. I want to see that 55!

@joesfj40 Funny, was just shopping Cummins Dodge trucks like yours!

@Yackster I don’t know if this will help since you are in Amarillo & I’m in Ca. But just in case:

I can bring to Ouray a 60 long side rear axle. I will get there Saturday afternoon. Leaving Ca. on Friday.

Sorry Zack i have none. I have 70 series ones but i dont think that will fit. Cruiser outfitters maybe able to expedite to
you!

Absolutely, we have pallet loads of stock SF rear axle shafts and shelves full of the parts to install them. We can ship as soon as tomorrow (Thursday) for delivery as soon as Friday AM. Say the word.

Leaving Sunday AM solo and meeting @RodrigzCrzr in Joseph, Utah. @Broski I think we both live in Morro Bay but have never crossed paths?!?!? 😂😂😂
Looking forward to meeting you in camp.
Planning to leave Friday in the the Am
Arriving in Ouray, Colorado Sunday afternoon 😉

I can also overnight one from here too…
I figured there were probably several potential lower cost solutions that accomplished the same thing in the same timeframe…

I appreciate it but I think between me and Casey we have one local.

I let me see what @POTATO LAUNCHER has come up with. I’ll let you know thanks 🙏

If anyone else needs parts while out there
Doubt anyone will need but I will have with me: a 4.11 9.5” third and a 80 steering box (will fit 60 also), I also carry all sorts of misc stuff, brake hoses that should fit any possible situation on any Toyota 4wd (male/female and banjo), an EFI fuel pump, wiring/relays/fuses/crimpers/connectors, most fluids, assortment of hoses/clamps, etc

If you need something, ask me I probably have it

I need an uncracked grey dashboard for a 60.

Dodge auto. No bueno behind Cummins.
I don't care for the 4500 all that much behind it either, the 5600 is a pretty tough transmission though. G56 is an expensive turd if going newer.

All washed and ready to get packed up!

We leave from the Seattle area to Portland tomorrow afternoon to pick up my wife’s cousin, Chase, who came with us last year.
Then we’re headed out bright and early Friday morning. See you all soon!
