CB is the preferred device. Cheap, easy to find and use. A few guys have HAM in our group. One of the cheap Cobra radios and a decent antenna that is tuned will cover trail comm needs.
Glad I saw this, I would have forgotten to bring the CB radio from my '76 FJ40. Now I need to figure out how I had it mounted when I originally installed it in my '84 FJ60 34 years ago. And the FJ62 dash in my '86 FJ60 is slightly different. I'll add it to my list of to-dos.

On another note, my skid plate was delivered this afternoon and I started to clean it. And yesterday I was able to grind down the welds and remove the heavy welded-on receiver hitch, making room for the spare tire, which is now in place. A little more grinding tomorrow and the old weld material will be gone from the frame rails. I'll temporarily install the bolt-on Draw-Tite receiver hitch (which clears the spare tire), mainly so we can use our hitch-mounted mountain bike rack.

Most important, I picked up some La Cumbre Elevated IPA and Malpais Stout @Mr Cimarron when we were down in Santa Fe today. We'll bring it up to Ouray. We drove the FJ60 - first time I've driven it over 55 mph since finishing the project. 65 mph was a piece of cake on the flats and downhill, but, as expected, it slowed down considerably on the Opera Hill. Still, I'm really satisfied with the 3FE/H55f combination. Now that I've got 335 miles on the rebuilt engine, I'll do the first oil change before we head north.

John, not sure what your C.B. mount looks like but I removed my cup holder and used those two holes to mount mine. No cutting or drilling required.

I've already started a to-do list for when we're up in Ouray. I hope to be able to talk Casey @POTATO LAUNCHER into taking a spin from the KOA up towards Ridgway - I'd like to figure out the speedometer correction using a GPS (which I don't have) so I can order what's needed. As near as I can tell I'm off by about 10% with the speedometer gears from the FJ62 transfer case, the FJ62 speedometer, and the LT235/85R16s.

Jim, thanks, I like that. My Uniden CB mounting bracket is similar. The cupholder can go, our new cupholder from BH3D printing arrives in tomorrow's mail. Fits right in the front of the FJ62 console.

Sure thing John, happy to do it. When are y'all arriving?

I was right at 12% over when I ran 235/85's on my 62. Can you just get speedo gears from an FJ60? 4.11 ÷ 3.70 = 1.11, should be pretty darn close.

Some day I'd like to see if I can adjust the speedometer separate from the odometer, as theres about a 10% difference with mine. I just turn on a speedometer app on the phone on a road trip and zero it out, look at the odo and compare numbers after 50 miles or so. My odo is 2% slow and my speedo is 10% fast at present with 4.88's and 33's.

@Dixon Santana posted a while back about a conversion box that fits between the sending unit and the cable. Literally a 2 minute swap to correct speed reading. Mine was off %20 with 3.70 gears and 35s. Thanks to Commercial Speedometer service in Sacramento, CA it is dead accurate now.

Any chance I can mooch off of someone's spot at the KOA? Didn't reserve one and now I'm SOL. Woe's of being a procrastinator and living just down the road. ;) Looking forward to meeting you all and getting out of this heat!! My daily commute says the truck is ready but we shall see...

I think our Seattle Contigent has one extra spot that someone will be willing to split. Might need to be mindeful of young neighbors (1-3 year olds), if your good with that then you can count on a shared spot.

If all goes well I’ll outside of Eagle CO on Friday 8/3 and then meander toward Ouray during the week. Anyone have a suggested route between Eagle and Ouray? Off pavement pavement preferred of course.

Poser pics as promised. :D

I can't help you much on the northern end of things, but I'm sure @DickM has some good ideas. On the southern end, I'd recommend CR 858, Cimarron Road, past Silver Jack Reservoir and over Owl Creek Pass to US 550. It brings you out just a couple of miles north of Ridgway. That's if you're coming west on US 50 from the Gunnison area. CR 858 heads south from US 50 between 2-1/2 and 3 miles east of the town of Cimarron.

Or if you come south just west of where US 50 crosses the Continental Divide at Monarch Pass, you could head south from Doyleville on US 50 to CO 114 west of North Pass. Then head about a mile east on CO 114 before turning south again on the road to the Cochetopa State Wildlife Area. Turn west on Forest Road 788 through Cathedral and over to CO 149 just north of Lake City. The road skirts the north side of the Powderhorn Wilderness. We drove that route on a family camping trip in our FJ60 more than 30 years ago. I remember it being a very scenic drive through the high country. From Lake City you could take either Cinnamon Pass or Engineer Pass to Ouray.

Anyone live in Denver Colorado? I’m needing someone to bring me a pto winch from a guy and take him my winch that I’m trading him.

We could share a spot. We will be in the forty with a rtt so there will be plenty of space Hondu
