I'm using left over hardboard for blinds. I bought it from home depot for cutting a package tray for my Galaxie. It's 1/8inch thick and 4'x8' and very inexpensive. One side is slick and the other is kind of waffled. I made templates from paper and traced onto the hardboard. I cut it out using a cutting wheel but jigsaw prob would have been better. Then stuck some velcro to the slick side of the board and it's mate to the windows. this for the quarter windows and the back window. the back doors will get skeeter beaters so I can roll down the windows. probably drape a blind across the front seats. Maybe put a cord from handhold to handhold and pull the blinds over the seats.

Here is the finished platform. I do need to cut and hinge the top wings at some point so I can pull the whole back piece out. I did put some dividers in my drawers and use one for pantry and the other for kitchen. tool box, porta potty, air pump, air mattress, window blinds etc fit in the cross through under the front section ..where the bench seat used to sit.

I did go back and cut "wings" off the top board and put piano hinges for easy of removal. I also put cleats under the wings mounted to the side of the box for some support of the wings. Probably worth it to plan this up front. It is very hard to place a one piece board inside the truck that is the entire width of the back.

Interesting seat setup. Doesn't look like facotry. Slight thread highjack but can you share what was installed?

What are you questioning that doesn't look "factory"? This is the stock interior on my HJ61.

Ah. HJ. Hadn't seen any of the US spec FJ6x with split rear. I grabbed a set of seats out of an Izuzu Rodeo for my front and back, and it looks just like those. Was going to ask for pictures of the mounts you had to fab for the rear, but not applicable. Nice build BTW, and thanks for the reply.

More pics of the platform with hinges. Also replaced the 2 1/2 inch phillips head screws (the screws that hold the two sections together) with 2 1/2 wood screws with t25 torx heads. No more stripping out the heads.

Love those factory split seats.

The thought of a platform for sleeping or tool storage has always looked heavy. I'd probably go all aluminum to reduce bulk and weight.

@MANUCHAO has aluminum drawers and they are beautiful.

That is the style I want. Where is your second driver's side drawer? It is available?

What I think I know is that unless you are very careful the plywood in the back is going to get really heavy, really quick. Looks good though.

Something that you might consider is using high density plastic for runners. I have them on my drawers and they work great. Seems like the heavier the drawers get the better they work. There was a guy named Jeff Kaufman (sp?) on Mud years ago that used this material. He was going to make them commercially but seems to have dropped out of site.

Will you use latches for your drawers?

I know that you said that you didn't want to go to the expense of a refrigerator but it sure is one of the best mods I ever did. Great not to have to worry about ice and wet food.

Wet food, seen that! I’m still a cooler guy.

“The struggle is real”

Lol
