They had a new home before they even came off the truck. What are your plans for the old shocks? I have this "friend" who has an 80 series and he's been sort of looking at shocks.
Got to call dibs early!

I just decided I'm not sure I know enough people I like enough to invite to ride along to warrant a back seat.I like it. I think my 80 might become a semi-permanent 2-seater as well.
With you. Kids are the only reason I have mine in. Otherwise no chance they’d be installedI just decided I'm not sure I know enough people I like enough to invite to ride along to warrant a back seat.![]()
Yeah, I'm firmly in your camp. Trying to remove unnecessary weight and keep weight low.My rear seats have been pulled sense I got the truck in 2015 and the two front seats were tossed in favor of cloth manual seats for an overall huge reduction in weight.
It’s crazy to me how many tools/spares/pieces of equipment a lot of people carry. 95% of us are either on pavement or essentially dirt roads with the occasional obstacle the majority of the time. I don’t get the desire to be a Dakar racetruck support vehicle.Yeah, I'm firmly in your camp. Trying to remove unnecessary weight and keep weight low.
The last trip out is actually making me reassess my recovery gear which is a lot heavier than it needs to be.
I actually don't carry a ton of spares, outside of fuses, replacement serpentine belt and some other small stuff. If i hauled the truck on a trailer and had a mounted box on the trailer to store junk, sure, I'd have axles, dive shafts, knuckles and a bunch of other stuff. I'm not sure where I'd even store all of that if i wanted to drag it with me in the rig. It’s crazy to me how many tools/spares/pieces of equipment a lot of people carry. 95% of us are either on pavement or essentially dirt roads with the occasional obstacle the majority of the time. Y’all probably already know but that’s how I do it and it all just lives in the trailer.I actually don't carry a ton of spares, outside of fuses, replacement serpentine belt and some other small stuff. She's already a heavy, heavy pig.
...But then again most 80 owners are notwillingable to run the trails that I do...
Fixed that for you.
I always look at all the stuff I have and think about taking some out but then I randomly run into a situation where it's needed. For example, my tool bad has a 25' tape measure in it... not sure why and was going to take it out but just last weekend someone happened to need a tape measure. Same thing happened a couple weeks back when someone needed a few SAE sockets. They aren't for the cruiser but they saved the day for jet skiing that weekend. It’s crazy to me how many tools/spares/pieces of equipment a lot of people carry. 95% of us are either on pavement or essentially dirt roads with the occasional obstacle the majority of the time. Was joking with the guys at the shop - Since a 40 series has 2 rows of louvers in the hood, an 80 series should have 4 rows, right?
All thanks to @torfab . They're just old-school cut louvers. Some of the hood support needs to be cut away, but the louvers stiffen the panels so it's a wash. Drove over plenty of nasty corrugations this weekend and there was zero hood-flopping.Details please
Best looking vent’s I have seen on a 80.
Did you see a drop in Eng temps ?All thanks to @torfab . They're just old-school cut louvers. Some of the hood support needs to be cut away, but the louvers stiffen the panels so it's a wash. Drove over plenty of nasty corrugations this weekend and there was zero hood-flopping.
I'm amazed at how much heat comes out of them.
