Planning on taking my 40 probably 100+ miles. What would y’all recommend changing out/ checking before we go? Changed the oil already. Need to be able to make it home at the end of the day.

A AAA card? A chase vehicle with tow strap? Seriously though, hard to answer without knowing anything about your 40. 100 miles isn't far so If you're worried about it making a 100 mile trip then maybe you shouldn't take it.

For 100 miles and close to civilization just the basics in my opinion. 100 miles in the middle of nowhere is a whole other story. Agree with @WarDamnEagle but I always find it useful to keep a socket set and wrench set with me. Fuses are always a safe bet. Looks like new tires and wheels so make sure you have something to tighten lug nuts just incase.

I just got back to south Texas from Ouray Colorado, around 2400 miles round trip. 76 FJ40 with 73,000 miles on the clock.
I would think brakes, brake lines, fuel lines and carb, steering. And ideally you have replaced all the hoses and vacuum lines under the hood.
An alignment done by a professional shop, although really not much to align, but it tends to prevent death wobbles.
Second the AAA card and a tow strap.
When you get back, take a good look at the radiator for leaks or weeping.
Now, turn around and do another 100, or perhaps 200. Just remember it’s a tractor not a race car.

+1 for some tools. Grease every zirk before the trip plus shake the wheel bearing and u-joints. Back in the day I would drive from boise to phoenix (1000 miles) in like 20 hours and stop for gas once because I had 30 gallons on board.

Well we’ve never taken it further than probably 30 miles. Only issue I’ve ever had with it was the fuel filter getting clogged one time and the fuel pump went out one time. (Tank has been flushed since)

We have a flat tow hitch and a jeep going with us

For my FJ40 — I check all the fluids (differentials, transfer case, engine), fuel filter (I pack a spare), visual inspection of everything underneath and engine bay.

That and my always in the truck tool set with fuses and an assortment of zip ties, wire, electrical tape. With this I figure I am
more prepared than 90% of anyone else on the road. These are really pretty simple trucks and you should be fine.

I'm just to your south in north Florida. If I'm going to drive my 40 100+ miles, I take a Visa card for gas, a cell phone to call the wife, and a dry shirt because after 15 minutes in my convection oven on wheels, I'm soaked in sweat. I doubt it's much cooler up there. Driving a vintage LC is an adventure. That's why we buy them. Enjoy the trip.

A 100 miles? I’d take a lot of money for gas.
I once used the brake cable off my mountain bike to replace the throttle cable on my ‘67, but that was on a 1000 mile trip, so you should be good.

Seriously 100? That's my daily commute if I have a busy day.

Money for fuel, phone, sunglasses.....

100 miles into the desert one way? Add water and a cooler. If you know your truck and drive it, you should know how it runs and how much fluid it uses, Compensate accordingly.

Another indicator that the times they are a changin. :meh:
