For what it’s worth, I believe that City Racer has the stainless steel screws and gasket for reinstalling the sending unit. But I could be wrong.

Ian,

From the other thread - thought I'd post here... more places for your $$

FJ40 Mark/Downey Header - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/fj40-mark-downey-header.1267016/
Too rich for my blood. Half of each kids college fund and about 26 pairs of their future shoes are already wrapped up in Norman. I'm looking at a straight piece of 2 3/8" fence post pipe from Home Depot for $24...

Yes, awesome. Thank you for the heads up. I briefly looked earlier but gave up. He also, naturally, has the sending unit for my weird bastard year of 4/1980.

"Sorry kids, duct tape is cheaper than shoes."

Since your 40 is a 79+ the fuel tank is NLA from Toyota. Spectra makes a replacement that you can get through Amazon intermittently. I don’t think anyone else is making them for the later model 40s.

Spectra Premium Spectra Fuel Tank TO16A

Other MUD members have used it with success and report everything is the same other than it does not have a drain plug like the OEM one does.

Looks like they’ve got stock of them right now for $216

College is over rated. Send them to trade school, lol!

Same with us electricians, but we can do it without getting dirty!
I was a foreman carpenter back in the day, we loved cleaning up after you guys. You’re messy folk for as clean as you stay.

Welders and plumbers make six figures these days.
I concur. I was well on the path to being an underwater welder at one point. Those dudes make serious coin. However, it turns out I’m too much of a pansy artist to spend months at a time with a bunch of roughnecks on rigs out at sea. So here we are.

I’ll let you in on a dirty secret. There is no college fund. My retirement plan is either A) win the lottery. Or B) my kids take care of us (whichever one still likes us and is doing well).

Interesting, thank you. I shall take a look. No drain plug is a bit of a bummer but where there is a will... and so on and so forth.

We have reputations to maintain!

I bought the replacement tank (bought it as a return directly from the manufacturer for $170 shipped then sold my old tank for $100). Honestly I have only drained a tank when I was repairing or replacing them which is a one and done job. A transfer pump can make easy work of emptying the tank and less messy than dropping a plug. Bonus, one less place to leak.

EXTREME TECH ALERT!!!

I put on a new OEM gas cap.

Aaaand…

Replaced the rear view mirror head. New arm was for a different year so if anyone wants or needs the new one, hit me up.
